Re: Low Platelets

Glad to hear that things are back to normal.
I had no idea that steroids could affect glucose levels for so long, I thought maybe for some reason you had to take it daily during infusion.

Re: Low Platelets

I have posted here previously about my platelet and neutrophil issues. My oxaliplatin was reduced to 90% for round 3, and has been at 75% since round 5. I just completed round 9 last Friday and I am 6 weeks behind schedule because of low counts. It is a constant in the back of my mind that all of th...

Re: Canadians-Husband diagnosed-what about WORK and PAY?

My husband was diagnosed a few weeks ago with colorectal cancer. Treatment should start soon...we are meeting with the oncologist next week. My husbands work only gives him 5 sick days and 4 personal days. In Canada, does that mean after he uses those 9 days, he only gets 4 months of medical EI? Pl...

Re: A cautionary tale

Gosh, from the angry verbiage and denunciations, I thought this guy was going to be a real refusenik. Nope, he did 9 rounds of folfox-Avastin, got hammered; did Erbitux, got hammered; did Vectibix and had some success; did some rounds of surgery including Hipec, and then eventually, Stivarga. I do ...

Re: Losing the will to live

Dauofcamom, I am so sorry. Your questions are very difficult ones and the answers are neither easy to give or maybe even to accept. Did your mother ever discuss, even casually, end of life options with your dad; or with you, brother and Dad at some point in the past? If she did that should be your s...

Re: Pizza

My surgeon advised that I could anything I wanted after surgery. Terminal ileum, cecum, appendix and most of the ascending colon were removed. Surgery was on Monday morning, I was home Wednesday afternoon. In reality I found that after surgery and more so now during chemo most foods are unappealing....

Re: Taste Change Advice

I stopped eating meat after my surgery and live on a diet similar to your husband, however I am able to eat some vegetables and whole wheat bread. I lost about 25lb in the 6 weeks between surgery and chemo, but have been able to maintain my weight since then. Just started #9 of 12 Folfox infusions t...

Re: The Miseries - But 'Hey I have it pretty good...'

This may sound odd, but I found that Lamaze type breathing exercises are helpful - as a distraction from the pain and to help with pushing.

Re: Worried Daughter

.... She is most likely looking at a hemi-colectomy (no ileostomy). He said she may be able to have the surgery done laprosocpically. That would be a huge blessing. Has anyone else on here had it done laporscopically? Are there any increased risks?... Right hemi-colectomy done laparoscopically 6 mo...

Re: Rebuilding neutrophils and platelets

Update: I was scheduled for blood tests this morning and chemo infusion this afternoon. Results came back - neutrophils are down now to 0.7 from last week's 0.9. So home I went. I got a phone call a few hours later from the cancer centre to say that another blood test has been scheduled for Thursday...

Re: Surgeon has me feeling horrible

Hi. It was actually found when i went to the emergency room. I have seen an onc.who only works with a team of 3. Hes the one who sent me to the liver surgeon. Finding each appointment is making things seem worse. I am going to be asked to be sent to a larger cancer center in surrey bc. Thank you so...

Re: Rebuilding neutrophils and platelets

Thanks everyone. My biggest issue seems to be with neutrophils. One oncologist suggested Neupogen injections, but I didn't like the sounds of the side effects plus I already have to give myself (and hate) daily blood thinner injections. My regular oncologist wasn't for it either. I think my next app...

Rebuilding neutrophils and platelets

I was supposed to have my 8th of 12 folfox infusions tomorrow but results from today's blood tests show both platelets and neutrophils are too low so I am delayed for a week. Platelets are just barely below the minimum level, but the neutrophils are at 0.9 where I've been told the minimum level is 1...

Re: Start tomorrow. So scared.

Lakeswim, I will start Folfox round 8 of 12 on Wednesday. The infusion nurses have all been outstanding and attempted to answer any questions I had. I'm not sure if you will read this before your first round, but I hope it will help. I was prescribed 2 anti-nausea meds to be taken at least 1 hr prio...
