Re: Liver mets: ablation vs. surgery, pros? cons?

Hopie, I had two liver tumors at diagnosis. They were both operable right away but because my rectal tumor was so low, I did 4 rounds of chemo with Vectibix before surgery to shrink the primary tumor. One of my liver tumors was resected as it was along the bottom of my liver and easy to take out. Wh...

Re: Ileo Reversal - LAR recovery

When his bum gets sore, a shallow bath with a little Dreft will help it feel better. Early on I took one or two a day.

Re: Folfox protocols

Tex, I made it through a full 12 rounds of Folfox. I finished last March. I have no idea if helped or not as I am a trial group of one, but she sells Plexus health supplements and had me on their vitamins and probiotics starting a little before dx. She had me take a product called Nerve when I went ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Glad things are going ok for you Mike. I have not had a blockage and I can’t remember where I read it, so take this with a grain of salt, but I seem to remember reading that frequent small meals are supposed to help one not get a blockage. I know you have managed your LAR syndrome by doing a lot of ...

Re: Is your life worth the fight?

Great message Hiker, I had my chemo done at my local hospital but Mayo called the shots. I felt bad for my local oncologist. He was busy with patients every time I went in for an infusion. I have several people I know who see him. We all have/had different types of cancer and he was supposed to give...

The weather is fun here too. -37 with a reall feel of -52. We hit a real feel of -66 last night. So a day with no school. That doesn’t happen around here much.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Sorry you are having such a rough go of it Mike. I know it is tough to be gone from work, but the short term disability route, if it is an option, might be a good thing to look into. I am sure your company wants you at your best for the long haul not just part of you for the short term. Praying for ...

Re: Short course radiation & surgery scheduled—questions

While we are on the subject, did either of you experience side effects or lasting effects of the short course radiation? If I did, it was masked by the operation. The only thing I remember is being tired but I think that might have something to do with being in Rochester with not much to do and not...

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

Lydia,

I had my liver resection 10/17 and had occasional pains for quite awhile after. I have been NED since so I am assuming it is just your liver healing and or repositioning.

Re: Short course radiation & surgery scheduled—questions

Dr Larson published a study right before my surgery about stage 4 rectal cancer. In it there was a group that did not receive preoperative radiation and a group that did receive it. The group that received radiation had 0 localrecurrences and the group that did not had, I believe, a 20% local recurr...

Re: Short course radiation & surgery scheduled—questions

I think the radiation your mom is getting and I got is more to, hopefully, reduce the chance of local recurrence and less about reducing the size of the tumor so maybe that makes it less critical?

Re: Short course radiation & surgery scheduled—questions

Punky,

I had surgery on a Thursday and so had the weekend off mid radiation and had zero issues and all seems well so far.
