Re: Waking up dormant cancer cells during chemo

I'm catching up on reading these and not understanding much, so sorry if this is obvious or addressed before, but I'm lost on a couple of things. 1. Is there a way to differentiate dormant cells from dead ones via blood tests or scans? 2. Could the supplements be "working" because they put...

Re: My CRC with liver mets journey

I don't have much to contribute in terms of helping with all the unknowns but just wanted to wish you good luck. You are being proactive against something that mostly allows reactive responses and I'm sure your body (or your platelets) will catch up soon!

She didn’t get it on her first round because some mutation tests weren’t out yet, she did get it on her second round though.

Re: Sadness (sorry for the blues)

Dear Paola, I'm not the one who goes through it, it's my mom, so my experience is by proxy, but some days are good and some are not. I'm sorry today's not a good day. But it's okay. At least that is what I try to tell my mom: it is okay to be scared, terrified, mad, angry, shocked and whatever it is...

Re: Trends

My mom only had 2 rounds of chemo, but her oncologist is not even clear about when we would know <whether> they would consider surgery. I think she wants to see her response to chemo, but I'd appreciate if she had actually communicated that. Have you been given specifics about why/when surgery would...

I'll add this too. And I'm happy that chemo is easier on you now!

My mom was given the same advice: priority is for her to eat, if healthy, great. If not, as long as she eats, we're good.

Re: Liver mets: ablation vs. surgery, pros? cons?

That answer shows the limits of their technical background, it's an antibody stain that can be used either way. The lab pathologists know it's a stain, they just hate a little extra work for a single CA199 (low volume, they only use it for pancreatic cancer cases and either run it as a single in a ...

Re: Liver mets: ablation vs. surgery, pros? cons?

If you report any CA199 preop/post op data, it may help future readers as well as yourselves. CA199 during Folfox is usually overwhelmed by interferences after a few treatments. For us, with metronomic 5FU, milder drugs, anti-inflammatory supplements, steady blood sugar etc, and no recurrence, CA19...

Re: Preparing a facts & to-do-list for "newcomers"?

I never needed any of the nausea meds during my chemo....maybe from gaining weight? After chemo, I took off the extra weight. Mom only had two rounds so far but she hasn't needed them either. Weight might indeed be relevant since they adjust the dose according to your weight too? During my 7 week c...

One even went so far as to say "...for everyone's sake, step aside and give someone else a chance to be treated by her. You now know first-hand, and without any doubt, that she doesn't like 'all these questions'. Before I start venting out: I'm really glad that your husband's scans showed no p...

Re: Preparing a facts & to-do-list for "newcomers"?

I announced my intention to eat healthy and they reinforced that once I started chemo, the real important thing is that I eat and keep my weight up. And if the only thing I feel like eating is Frosted Flakes I should eat Frosted Flakes. (Which some days is kind of how it goes.) I agree Ginabewell! ...

Re: Preparing a facts & to-do-list for "newcomers"?

One more to add: eat as much as you can before starting chemo, especially if you have already lost weight and can't afford to lose more. I wish I had focused more on packing a few extra pounds on, and less on green juices in those early days. This is great advice too! Were you given any specific ad...

Most people ignore me on this, but I will say it again, information is power, and survival - get better blood data and let's discuss it. Just wanted to say that the linked part didn't work--for me at least, and as someone else who's listening wholeheartedly but is not equipped enough to digest ever...

Thank you all for suggestions!! Here's an updated version. I made 4 groups to organize them a little bit but please add/correct! I'm bolding parts I could use some help with. A. The shock 1. Stats are old, like, seriously old AND invalid. They include people who died of other things and were drawn f...

Re: Preparing a facts & to-do-list for "newcomers"?

Tentatively, these are the things that I have at the top of my head: 1. Stats are old, like, seriously old AND invalid (people die of other things!) 2. Get your CEA, CA199 checked before primary tumor surgery 3. LARS is a thing 4. Get a colorectal surgeon 5. Get a second opinion if you don't like yo...
