Re: Still NED!! Bit curious about surveillance scans

Congrats on the NED! It makes me nervous but our Oncologist said that for John's staging once a year CT chest/abdomen/pelvis scans is recommended, with additional scans ordered if needed. We still have quarterly bloodwork and Oncologist visits, but I would feel better if we did scans twice a year in...

Job Hunting After Treatment?

So one thing my DH's cancer diagnosis made us realize is that life is too short to be miserable. John has wanted to switch careers for a while now but the time never seemed right or we weren't in a good place financially for him to start somewhere new. Now that he's almost fully healed from reversal...

Re: Severe pain while walking after LAR

My husband too had terrible pain after his LAR surgery to reverse his colostomy. It also took 24 hours longer for his gut to wake up than normal because his surgery was over 6 hours long, the poor guy threw up every bit of the liquid diet he had eaten that day. His pain was located mainly in his rig...

Re: Found mass at husbands first colonoscopy today

Does your husband work for a company of at least 70 employees? If so he will qualify for FMLA, which is unpaid but it will protect him from being laid off due to the time he'll need away from work and continue your health benefits if it's through his company. Our story is similar to yours, though we...

Re: Constipation vs Bowel Blockage whats the difference?

During treatment we were always told that after 24 hours without a bowel movement try Colace, then is the next day still no movement go with Miralax. If still no movement after that then call the doctor. As for the difference, while I have not suffered it myself my husband was diagnosed because of a...

Re: A touch of neuropathy

As everyone else said, definitely tell your Oncologist. My DH started feeling the numbness and tingles in his fingers and soles of his feet so she delayed his treatment by one week to give his body more time to recover. When he came back with no improvement she removed it altogether. I know taking B...

Re: Foods to avoid during chemotherapy

We weren't told to avoid anything specific except for cold foods due to the Oxaliplatin, though I do second the try not to eat your favorite foods. It was my instinct to get his favorites to help him feel better during chemo, but that just made the taste change effect feel worse when that favorite t...

Re: Quality of life on Folfox and others

My DH did all 12 rounds of Folfox, though near the end the Oxy was reduced due to neuropathy. The cold sensitivity didn't bother him much, we just kept a pair of knit gloves by the fridge, in his car, at his job etc to make sure he could snag them when needed. He works in the foodservice industry so...

Re: Stoma Reversal

Thanks for the tips guys! Surgery yesterday was long and complicated, 6 hours, but he did well and now we’re in the process of making him feel better. The surgeon mentioned he is at high risk for a hernia along his original site as she could see the wall was weakening there during surgery. So I get ...

Stoma Reversal

So we're finally here at this next major stage in my DH's recovery. He has been waiting for this moment, his time with an ostomy has been very hard and he can't wait to be reconnected. We're the first surgery slot of the day tomorrow and while our surgeon has told us of the dozens of possible outcom...

Re: New here - My cautionary tale

We never got the chance to pick any of our doctors, by the time we were told by our GP to go to the ER for his "constipation" he could barely make it to the door. Found out that day if you can't enter into the ER under your own power you get bumped to the top of the list! I was so surprise...

Re: I am so worried.

When it came to my husband they didn't know if there was lymph node involvement until after the surgery, then they were able to test all the lymph nodes removed and see how many had been affected by cancer. I'm not sure if they show up on a CT scan unless they are swollen or otherwise have changed s...
