Re: Anyone disconnect pump at home (with training)?

My girlfriend unhooked me, it took about 5 mins. Nurse showed us how to do it, pretty simple. Now, I had the non-battery operated thing, just a bottle and some tubing. Can't comment on the other system.

Re: Newbie here... questions about liver resection...

Dr. Kemeny is not the only one who does the HAI protocol, as far as I know the ALL do. Dr. Kemeny and MSK are the pioneers of this type of treatment, she is the expert on the pump, she supervises the whole group. She's a very busy oncologist as one can expect, so don't be discouraged if you don't ge...

Re: Met with oncologist for first time after tumor removal.

Jason, tough words to hear. But now is not the time to fold, it's time to work. I for one believe that diet, exercise and state of mind play a critical part in how we survive this disease. This is my opinion, based on my experience, I'm not implying every one feels the same. I would not just eat wha...

Re: 5 FU pump overdose

I'm so sorry for your Mom. I'm a bit confused as to the pump used, when I had pump it was bottle that held the drug and it worked with body temperature to draw the drug in. It did not have a battery, it seems like a simple, safe procedure. Is the battery powered pump very common?

Re: Local Onc decided not to treat my wife with HAI pump

It would be interesting to find out if the reason so many doctors and hospitals don't pursue the HAI protocol is financial. It has been proven to be not only medically effective but also much less costly than than what we the standard treatment is. HAI treatment is usually done by infusing FUDR, a d...

Re: I went to Dana Farber.... Here's the plan.

Go to Sloan to get another opinion. The HAI treatment has worked for lots of people, there are hundreds, probably thousands of folks out there who have been cured or are in long term remission because of this treatment. Cancer is a complicated disease, you need to find the best trained most, experie...

Re: FUDR reduced

As previous posters noted, don't worry too much, FUDR was reduced for me as well. It's not uncommon on this protocol for liver enzymes to shoot up. It's probably one of the reasons why MSK is the main center in the country where HAI therapy is performed and is proven effective. It needs to have cons...

Re: Any Males have HAI/Liver Resection at MSK?

Hey there, had same surgery there 3 years ago. Surgery went as planned, took about 5 hours. I was there five days, no complications. I was mobile as soon as I could, walking around the floor. I took the minimum stuff for my stay there, my goal was to leave there as soon as possible, and not treat it...

Re: Does survival rate increase a little at 2 years ?

My understanding is that there are no real hard studies showing on when exactly the countdown clock starts. Some think is from the time of DX, others from the time of the first NED scan or from the end of the last treatment. It seems logical that if one has continuing CLEAR scans over one, two or th...

Re: Surgery-Update Liver Resection/Hai

Hey Julie, I was a good patient and followed all the doctor's and nurses's directives. Everyone is different of course, but I did not require and epidural. I was there for five days, of course, I hate hospitals and wanted to be back home the next day! As soon as I could I was doing my walks around t...

Re: Thanks to Obamacare Alive Today

My rates will actually be lower now than they were, and i go to a top notch cancer center, MSKCC. In my opinion the Affordable Care Act will work in the long run, the issues with the website will soon be addressed and fixed. People have 6 months to sign up for coverage, plenty of time. People are ri...

Re: 53rd St. gang a.k.a. Nancy's kids

I'll be there late october for pump maintenance. As to the running, I was never told not to. Obviously you have to give time for things to heal up right before you do any exercise. I have run more miles in the last three years than I had in the past 10, I credit exercise greatly with my being health...
