Re: CT scan- MDA said ok; local onc has issue

The thing you have going for you is "hypervascular." There are some primaries that can be associated with hypervascular lesions on the liver, but I do not believe colorectal is one of them. In general, colorectal shows up as "ring enhancement," not "hypervascular." Get ...

Re: New Member : Stage 2

It would be odd for them to get T stage incorrect on the path report. That is cut and dry and they would err on the overstaging side if the microscopic examination was questionable. What does the microscopic section say? This is where the meat of the report is with the gross examination being just l...

Re: Stage 2 stories wanted

At stge 2A risk factors will determine the recommended course. There are many studies saying T3N0M0 tumors are over treated with chemo, so their treatment tends to depend on on onc's experience. Things he/she will take in to consideration: Lymphovascular invasion Perineural invasion Number of lymph ...

Re: New Member : Stage 2

You pathology report is consistent with T3, into the fat but within the serosa. Your circumferential margins look clean as the tumor is 6mm from the serosal layer. Concern comes when they are within 1mm of the serosa. This is one less risk factor for you. At the risk of too much information, here ar...

Re: Prognosis question

MD Anderson has a nomogram that includes 5-year conditional survival. In other words, if you survived x number of years, what is your prognosis for the next 5 years. This takes in to account the changing statistics as you move along the risk curve. Good luck!! http://cancerguide.org/scurve_conditiona...

Re: Need Chemo?

Hello, My wife was diagnosed 8/2012 with surgery 9/2012. Her onc and surgeon recommended no chemo because of low risk factors. She was given the choice but encouraged not to do it. Stage 2a (focal) T3N0M0 with 22 lymph nodes taken tumor was 2 cm and located 12cm from the verge (at the rectosigmoid j...

Re: Just Diagnosed

Your surgeon likely would have recommended you to an oncologist for chemo even if the nodes were normal on scan, primarily because of the T3 designation. This means that the tumor has penetrated the muscle into the perirectal fat. Doc sees you at least at Stage 2, possibly Stage 3. There is some deb...

One last thing OP, some folks like and other don't that is why I am asking before posting the link, if you want a link to a nomogram that has the current survival rates for various stages I can post a link. The link is from a major cancer center at the tip of the cancer spear, so the data is more u...

Re: New Member and Questions

5) Stage II is less advanced than III and it is also the most controversial when it comes to how to treat. Better stage III survival scores are thought to come from the fact that a stage III diagnosis immediately puts you in to the chemo bucket, whereas the stage II diagnosis is a judgement call. T...

Re: New Member and Questions

Hi, First, good luck to your husband. Hope to help with a few of your questions. 1) Vascular invasion (generally lymphovascular invasion) means that there is an indication on the pathology slides that cancer cells were surrounded by endothelial cells, which means the tumor may have penetrated a capi...
