Re: Reduced oxi

Hello, When I was undergoing treatment I had to have a reduction in Oxaliplatin due to an allergic reaction (if memory serves, I think about 10% of patients have a reaction to the drug, though apparently I was the first at my clinic). Due to increased intolerance I eventually had to quit the drug al...

Re: list of pink stuff

Every now and then I post a link to Barbara Ehrenreich's fantastic article, "Welcome to Cancerland". I read the article eight years ago, five years prior to my cancer diagnosis, and was mightily impressed with her observations - Ehrenreich's musings really resonated with me. For any of you...

Re: Lost 1st tooth to chemo

Terry, that sucks. I'm really sorry to hear of your dental woes. I don't know if it makes you feel better (sometimes misery loves company), but this year when I went for a dental check-up my teeth were in dire shape. The dentist took some x-rays and apparently two of my crowns had serious decay occu...

Re: New here, tons of questions

Hi Jane, First, I am sorry to meet under these circumstances, but welcome to the forum. I can totally understand how shocking it is to receive news that what you thought may be a hemorrhoid might be cancer. I had a tumour in the sigmoid region, and the specialists recommended that I have 18 inches o...

Oh, this makes me sad.

Brady was a fabulous man. Clearly loved, and deservedly so. My thoughts are with you Sharon.

Re: What foods bother you?

Popcorn and red wine. Truly sad, as I adore the occasional glass of red wine.

Re: getting enough fluids

Hi Vicki, As others have noted, water is likely the best beverage (coffee is dehydrating). And yes, it is vital to keep hydrated during treatment. I suspect that one of the reasons that you may not want to drink is due to nausea. When I was undergoing treatment I had to force myself to drink eight g...

I'm really happy to hear that you're recovering well, and have to admit that I chuckled when I read about your third nipple (one of my ex's had one). I really hope that your nodes come back clear. I also find the waiting to be tortuous. Hang in there.

Warm wishes,

Re: About THE MONTHLY NEWS THREAD

Garbo, Okay. As this is an open forum, I would like to clarify my concern noted in an earlier thread. A quick tally allows that 13% (6/45) of the posts on page one have been submitted by you. At the same time, you have been permitted to post a monthly news thread, which I generally take no issue wit...

Re: The 10 commandments of cancer prevention

My worry is that if we clutter up the forum with too many news sources, some of which don't pertain to colon cancer, we may miss some of the new posters, as their messages get bumped down rather quickly. When I visit the forum I try to make an effort to search out the posts from family members or th...

Re: colon cancer stage 4 Urgent help

Hello Deniz, I'm very sorry to hear about your Aunt. News of metastasis is very upsetting. Reading through your message, from what I've read and learned in this forum is that Avastin is very effective for some people. I've never taken the drug, so perhaps others will chime in on its effectiveness. A...

Re: Oxi rash question

Hi Diane, I too had an allergic reaction to the Oxaliplatin around treatment 10. My face turned bright red and I got red splotches on my stomach. My medical team pumped me full of benadryl and things got better. Still, it was a bit unsettling. As Justsing noted, for my next treatment I was given som...

Re: Anyone else had muscle spasms post surg & some good news

Hi Littlefish, I had the exact same experience following surgery. However, I might not have experienced the muscle spasms had my epidural worked properly (I later learned that it was faulty). When I asked my surgeon what had caused the muscle spasms, he replied in layman terms, that my stomach muscl...
