Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

The result this morning wasn't expected - total cleanout but it took two hours. It was rather soupy so not a very good result. There are multiple schools of thought in the LARS forum - diet, fiber, enemas, fiber + Imodium, fasting (found someone else that fasts a few days a week and otherwise eats ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Mike, I wonder if you spoke with your surgeon again about trying enemas now that you are coming up on a year out from reversal. I have been using them everyday for 2 years with very good success. It's only a few cups of tap water, takes about 30-40 minutes and I'm good for the day. It has allowed me...

Re: Neuropathy improvement: individual experience

I'm 3 years out from chemo. Still have neuropathy on the bottom of my feet. Tingly and weird feeling especially barefoot. It doesn't prevent me from doing anything but is annoying. I think I have just gotten used to it, since it really doesn't prevent me from doing anything. My hands are okay, I use...

Re: Reversals Any positives?

Thanks Susie My surgeon nurse mentioned water enemas in the event I'd need them and she would talk me through it, but I'll wait and see because I'm only 5 weeks out,,,,, Why not fleet enemas ( quicker turnaround??? NO?) The chemicals in a fleet enema if used continually is not good for the colon as...

Re: CT Scan contrast injection and kidneys, advice, please

My oncologist always tells me to drink alot of water on the days before my scan, and my cancer center gives me a bottle of water for contrast before the scan, but does still do an IV contrast.

Re: Ileostomy Care

I would keep an eye on this. Four weeks after my resection I emptied my bag in the morning, then later in the afternoon felt a couple weird pains. I started to notice nothing was going into my bag. I went for a couple walks to get things moving, but nothing. After a few hours I went to the emergency...

Re: CEA Levels

I had my reversal before doing chemo due to a blockage 4 weeks after my resection. Surgeon had to do surgery to remove scar tissue so reversed my ileo at the same time. It did make it difficult during chemo with loose stools. My oncologist to prescribe cholestyramine which did help along with immodi...

Re: Marking time from first diagnosed or??

My oncologist told me that I was considered NED after surgery, even though I had adjuvant chemotherapy. She also said that most recurrences will occur within 2 years of original diagnosis. Having a my first yearly ct scan since finishing treatment in April. Up until then was having every 6 months. I...

Re: University of Michigan Hospital

I was treated at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. I have been very pleased with the treatment and coordination I received. Very happy with my surgeon. I went to Henry Ford as a second opinion as my treatment was to be the same at both hospitals. I was just more comfortable with the team at Henry Ford...

Great news. I have a scan coming up in April, my first one since progressing to yearly scans. Starting to get a little nervous, but my CEA was .6 in November so that's good. So happy for you.

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

Positive vibes coming your way. I understand the anxiety, my one year scan is coming up in April. It's the first one since graduating to a yearly scan schedule. Been having them every 6 months which gave me more security. I know being moved to yearly scans is a good thing, but some much can happen i...
