Re: FOR REFERENCE - treatment of adrenal metastases

I'm glad your DH is getting his adrenalectomy! My DH has one on his right side that they are going to do an ablation on (it is fairly small, about 1.5cm I think). I have read good things about ablation on them. DH had SBRT on 4 liver mets in Nov2017 and has had good results so far. His radiation onc...

Re: Cea on the rise

What did the doctor say? DH had a non detectable level of CEA when he was diagnosed (and riddled with cancer). As he did chemo and pump chemo it did rise, but I think the highest for him was about 11. Ironically, his CEA is lowest when he has active tumors. Go figure. And yes, your DH's liver enzyme...

Re: RFA -Lung Tumour

Dh had an RFA procedure done in 2018. They ended up aborting the procedure as the IR doctor felt he could not visualize the tumor well enough and didn't want to kill health tissue. They ended up doing a VATS the next day. Other than them not being able to see the tumor well enough (it was small, abo...

Re: Memorial Sloan Kettering Hotel Option Question

We usually bounce between the Courtyard on 3rd at 53rd or the Helmsely Medical tower. the Helmsely is 273 a night for the cheapest room but there are no taxes or fees since it is a non profit. You just pay the 273. The studio has a kitchen as well, so nice for cooking or even buying stuff you can ea...

Re: Please help, input needed

I am so sorry you are going through this. I would like to echo previous posters though, the google numbers do not reflect what we see in actual practice. My DH was diagnosed at 36 with stage 4 cancer that had spread to his liver. He has had a few recurrences, and further spread to his lungs and adre...

Re: Bad symptoms every 5 days

I had the flu shot. I don't think it's any type of flu. the flu shot only covers flu a and b. the "stomach flu" is not an actual flu virus, just called that because of how virulent it is. Gastroenteritis can last a few weeks, but usually the acute stages (vomiting, nausea, fever, etc) las...

Re: SCAN QUESTIONS

Wish we could do this. However, we have to travel and get the scans within 18 hours of the oncologist consult the following day. The reports never get released until at least 48 hours after the scan and that's when they are on weekdays. Because we come from out of town and my husband's schedule is ...

Re: Question- how do you count years of survival?

I have always looked at Overall Survival rates being from day diagnosed. So for DH he has passed the 4yr OS mark. For NED I count the day no scans or tests show cancer. So for his current bout, it would be NED since Nov. 2018. He has been NED before twice, with the clock restarting with each new met...

Re: How long oxilaplatin can be taken?

My DH didn't do Oxaliplatin with Xeloda, but he did have Folfox and had 13 rounds of oxi( I think! may have been 11). Had to stop when he started having trouble swallowing and was choking due to neuropathy in his throat. edited to add that the only residual side effects a few year later is some mino...

Re: In hospital.

So sorry you are ill but so glad they caught it early and you listened to your body! DH just got out of the hospital after a nasty bout of pneumonia. Hope you can get some rest and be out soon to recuperate at home.

Re: ...progression...

I'm sure I know but can't quite remember but what kind of side effects does one have after HAI placement? What are the chances that they will resect (the colon) during that surgery? To be honest, the actual side effects of the pump chemo are not noticeable. You are also on systemic at the same time...

Re: Cancer households should not have to deal with lice

Ugh. I feel you. my oldest caught lice on the bus. The kids sit 3 across (which seems insane for junior high kids!) and their heads are so close. It was my first experience with lice on my kids. I was tempted to shave everyones heads that day. I didn't go nuts though with the cleaning, as I have rea...

Re: ...progression...

With the amount of mets your husband has, I would think the possibility of liver resection gives him the best chance at a cure. HAI is the way to do that. I would not do SIRT until you have met with someone about HAI (preferably at MSKCC if you can swing it)

Re: Treatment at MSK

Amazing that they were able to remove so many mets from your husband's liver!! It sounds like their surgeons are extremely competent. Fingers crossed over here!!! [/quote] It was amazing. I think Dr. DeMatteo (who is no longer at MSKCC, he is the chair of surgery at the med school at Univ of Penn n...
