Re: TECENTRIQ (atezolizumab) + COTELLIC (cobimetinib) for Stage IV, starting 11/7/2017

Hi everyone, Thank you for your kind words :) Update #3: Around 2.5 litre of ascites drained after 15 days of accumulation, and 450 ml pleural fluid after 8 days. A bit more than expected but we will take it. At worst there were 500+ ml (150+ ml) drained daily. Mom developed a mild fever yesterday a...

Re: TECENTRIQ (atezolizumab) + COTELLIC (cobimetinib) for Stage IV, starting 11/7/2017

Update #2: It has been 2 weeks since the start of the new regimen. Today's X-ray showed slight decrease of shadowy area in both lungs. Our onc said it's a very positive and miraculous response considering we are only 2 weeks in! Fluids seem to build up again in the lungs and abdomen but at a much sl...

Re: Fluid on the lung???

My mom has been battling pleural effusion since last year. The fluid accumulates when the the disease grows in the pleural space. It comes back until you treat the underlying disease. A procedure called pleurodesis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleurodesis) may prevent its recurrence. It basically ...

LMighty, so happy to hear! An actual step in the right direction! Is your mom feeling more comfortable now? Not needing the drainage is itself such a relief. Yes she is. Her energy level is slowly recovering with the help of low dose of supplementary oxygen. She has intestinal cramps and mild diahh...

Re: TECENTRIQ (atezolizumab) + COTELLIC (cobimetinib) for Stage IV, starting 11/7/2017

Hi everyone, Thank you so much for your kind words! I have an encouraging update. Since Wednesday the ascites reduced from 300-500ml daily to virtually zero. Not even detectable by ultrasound. Our onc said it's good news but it's too early to tell if it represents response. We will see if it stays t...

Re: TECENTRIQ (atezolizumab) + COTELLIC (cobimetinib) for Stage IV, starting 11/7/2017

Hey Maia, Thanks for your concern! My mom is still in hospital for pleural fluid and ascites drainage and it has been a month. We are leaving the drains in so we can remove the fluid at home. X-rays from a few days ago showed a bit more shadow especially in the left lung. Our onc's interpretation is...

TECENTRIQ (atezolizumab) + COTELLIC (cobimetinib) for Stage IV, starting 11/7/2017

HI everyone, With the help and support from members on this board (particularly Maia -- the info you shared is crucial!) and our VERY accommodating, supportive oncologist, treatment with TECENTRIQ (atezolizumab) + COTELLIC (cobimetinib) for my mom (stage IV, KRAS wild-type, MSS; failed Xelox + Avast...

Re: Ascites. Peritoneal mets confirmed.

UPDATE: We finally secured supply of both Tecentriq and Cotellic (very expensive of course) and the treatment will start in a few days. I may create a dedicated thread soon as I am sure many members of this board would be interested.

Re: Ascites. Peritoneal mets confirmed.

My mom is MSS so the only option left for her is combining Keytruda with Cotellic and Tecentriq--if we can get them, that is. Our onc is working on that. Most likely he can only get Cotellic though. Keytruda and Tecentriq are almost equivalent --an anti PD-1 and an anti PD-L1, respectively. One use...

Re: Ascites. Peritoneal mets confirmed.

Bad news. MS status finally confirmed. My mom is MSS so the only option left for her is combining Keytruda with Cotellic and Tecentriq--if we can get them, that is. Our onc is working on that. Most likely he can only get Cotellic though.

Anyhow, we are not giving up.

The pericardial effusion turned out to be false, confirmed by further scan. What an unhealthy amount of scare.

Re: The grueling wait for response to Keytruda (with MS status unconfirmed)

Maia, thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately my mom has pericardial effusion just now. No immediate danger but certainly life threatening. Our onc mentioned hospice as an option as frequent tapping from multiple sites (heart, lungs and abdomen) could be quite a suffering. We are not giving up ...

The grueling wait for response to Keytruda (with MS status unconfirmed)

Hate to be a downer but I really need to vent. So after my mom had her first shot of Keytruda on 5 June, she was hospitalized 4 times for pleural fluid and/or ascites tapping. The fluids in both sites reaccumulated rapidly as if actually worsened by Keytruda or progression. So rapid (~800 ml daily) ...

Re: Things Not to Say and the Responses I want to Make (Rant)

I am at the hostipal with my mom who is having pleural fluid and ascites tap. This lady next to us, she was hospitalized to treat symptoms from some advanced cancer. We overheard that the lady refused conventional treatment and turned to TCM instead, without consulting any TCM practitioner but Dr. G...
