Re: Hello please help.

Your body has been through a lot. I know it's hard but try not to worry too much, give it some time to heal.

Re: Colon Mass Pain subsided

It does sound unusual that your pains would disappear like that. And bowel cancer usually grows slowly, so unless they missed it at your last colonoscopy 3 months ago, it would be unusual for a tumor to grow to such a size it is causing pain and can be picked up on a CT in such a short time. What di...

Re: Help! Post-OP CEA levels same as Pre-OP (5.6) should I be worried??

Sorry to hear about your mother. It sounds like your family has had a very rough time fighting multiple cancer battles. You mentioned your mother has a massive amount of polyps. Have they all been removed or were there too many of them? I ask because I think that the presence of polyps can elevate C...

Re: Hello please help.

DVT is a type of blood clot, usually in your legs. Walking as much as possible reduces your risk.

I don't recall getting much swelling anywhere after my operation. Have you spoken to your surgeon about it?

Re: Hello please help.

That is great news that there was no spread! Hang in there and things will get better. And listen to your doctors when they say you need to be walking - you really do not want to get DVT after your surgery.

Re: Is LARS a foregone conclusion? Anyone doing W&W?

No, I did not have any radiation, pre or post-operative. You can use this online calculator for predicting your probability of having LARS: https://www.pelicancancer.org/our-research/bowel-cancer-research/polars/ Having said that, the calculator predicts I would have major LARS, so I guess everyone ...

Re: Young person struggling to schedule a colonoscopy

I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. There are many reasons for bleeding and it is usually not cancer, but it should be investigated rather than just assuming it is hemorrhoids. I would suggest you see another doctor and insist on a referral to a GI doc (gastroenterologist). The GI doc will...

Re: Rectal Bleeding causing fear

If your last colonoscopy found hemorrhoids, I think that would probably be a likely cause of bright red blood. Were they internal hemorrhoids? If so, it can be completely painless. But given that you had recent hernia repair surgery, I would suggest you speak to your surgeon just in case it is relat...

Re: symptoms of colon cancer

Welcome to the forum and sorry for the reason that you're here. Unfortunately, colon cancer symptoms are very non-specific. The symptoms you describe are possible symptoms of colon cancer, but they are also symptoms of many other diseases. The only way to accurately diagnose colon cancer is with a c...

Interesting. I didn't realise remote second opinions were possible and it didn't even occur to me to check when I was seeking opinions. Good to know for future.

Re: Newly diagnosed 36 yo male with stage IV

I got second opinions from Dana-Farber and another smaller centre, and have one underway with MSKCC for my peace of mind. All generally aligned so far, but of course it’s early days. Hi Rock Lobster, sorry to hear about your recent bad luck. Hope the DVT is not too painful and heals up quickly. I'm...

Re: Hello please help.

I would reiterate what everyone else has said. I don't mean to sound rude, but you really need to face up to this. Improving your diet will reduce your risk of developing cancer in the future (not just bowel cancer, but many others too), but it will not cure your existing cancer. You need to get pro...

Beckman-Coultier CEA assays

I've seen a lot of talk about Roche vs Bayer CEA measurements. My hospital was using Roche but recently switched to a new measurement called Beckman-Coultier: From the 2nd September 2018 tumour markers for AFP, CEA, CA 19-9, CA 153, CA 125 are measured on the Beckman-Coultier DxI analyser. Does anyo...
