Re: What to expect?

Oh, and IMO eastern medicine is useless. This is cancer. Your life is on the line. My advice is to seek the best onc care you can at the best hospital you can get into. And that's a STAT recommendation.

Re: What to expect?

There's something you need to ask about - PROSPECT trial. It's not for everyone and I'm not sure of the requirements, only than it's geared towards stage iii-ers. It's using FOLFOX pre-surgery instead of chemorad as the pre-surgery treatment. Avoids the nasty side effects of radiation issues. I'm on...

Re: I heart FOLFOX

I'm not an expert on these things but I got the call, later in the day I was diagnosed, from a doc saying, "It's good news, there's no mets blah blah blah but we do want you to come in for a MRI for a spot on your liver." Scared the hell out of me. Did MRI and doc called two days later sai...

Re: I need a little hope

No idea on the wait times but - and I may have already said this - but my rec would be to request a consult with dr. George Chang. He's my surgeon and I have a lot of confidence in him.

I don't understand or believe that numerous oncologists and cancer surgeons were telling you you could die at any moment from a disease that does not kills a person in years or, at worst, months.

Re: So many questions

I have been told by the doctors that anything under 1 cm a PET does a poor job of picking it up especially in the liver. They are basing it all off of the two CT scans and an MRI. on her initial CT on 3/3/17 it identified a liver cyst in her, yahoo it was an answer to a prayer that day. On the 7/5/1...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Might ask about the PROSPECT trial if you want to avoid radiation. It gives 6 rounds of FOLFOX instead of chemorad. I am under it and had 80% regression from chemo alone. Now waiting on surgery.

Re: So many questions

Tater, sorry you're here. I'm forty with young kids diagnosed stage 3 with lymph mode involvement 3/16/17. Similar initial journey although I don't have any mets. I'm at MD Anderson and was itching to start chemo. My onc told me statistically it doesn't really matter if we start this week or three w...

Re: Question about chemo and blood work

Pretty routine to delay treatment for low blood counts. I delayed my sixth FOLFOX round a week and a half due to low platelets. Onc was not concerned.

Re: Colorectal Surgery (Rectal) post op?

I'm going in July 31. I have a mid-rectum tumor that had 80% regression after six rounds FOLFOX. Surgery is minimally invasive robotic performed by Dr. Chang at MDAnderson. Because I had no radiation, Chang told me there's a 50% chance he will not install a temp bag. That all sounds well and good, r...

Re: I need a little hope

I would wait to get into Anderson. I'm there and my docs were not slow, but not overly aggressive into getting to the treatment part. Said it was slow growing thing. I'd think the benefit of md Anderson expertise would be worth a slight delay.

Both prayers and good vibes coming your way from Houston.

I was convinced my last scans were going to be shit and they turned out pretty good. Praying for the same for you.

Re: Any luck with Neoadjuvant chemo/radiation therapy Stage 3 Rectal Cancer?

Oh man this thread made my day. I am stage 3 but did not have any radiation, just FOLFOX. After six cycles I had an 80%+ regression with only "minimal residual disease remaining."

I really like the idea that I have a "wimpy" cancer that's just waiting to roll over and die.

Re: I need a little hope

Don't know if this is the right thing for you but I leaned on Xanax the first few weeks. Helped tremendously with sleep and anxiety. I still take one anytime I'm heading up to MD Anderson.

Re: I heart FOLFOX

Surgery is minimally invasive robotic and if all goes according to plan hospital stay will only be three days. As awkward as it sounds, I am "glad" to hear you found chemo worse than the surgery because that's what I'm most concerned about. Never had surgery before but my wife has had two ...
