Re: Just diagnosed

I live in NJ and go to MSKCC. It's worth the drive. And now they have spaces in Monmouth, Bergen and Basking Ridge. Also Long Island? When i was first diagnosed by a local gastro, I immediately went to MSKCC. I had surgery there and then when it came time for chemo, my doc recommended someone local,...

Re: Chemo has caught up to me yall

Ugh! Sorry for you!!! The effects are cumulative so not surprising that you’re down for a bit longer as treatment progresses....but you are definitely NOT a big baby!! I hope you get a break after your CT...breaks always helped me. And if someone offers you help, please take it. That was hardest for...

Re: Chemo break

Hi...I think it is perfectly reasonable to request a break. I've been dealing with cancer for almost 11 years, and over the last 3-4 years have been on and off chemo. I don't think chemo will ever truly get rid of my cancer, but it is managing it. I went on Folfiri and Avastin for 12 cycles and then...

Re: Managing erractic mood swings. Is psychologist the answer ?

Hi, I get it that you don't want to appear whiny to you doctor. I felt/feel the same. I was just like you and I feel like I'm giving advice to my younger self. And there are a lot of things that I wish I did differently when I was initially diagnosed. I was overwhelmed and scared. So, while the best...

Re: Managing erractic mood swings. Is psychologist the answer ?

Hi Jolene and welcome, I could've written your post myself, ten years ago (yikes!) or yesterday (haha!). I wish I could give you a hug! Before my cancer diagnosis, I had never seen a therapist. With all that you go through mentally and physically with a cancer diagnosis, I feel like it should almost...

Re: Delaying treatment?

AmyG: I’m sorry for this unimaginable crisis you are facing. I’ve read your previous posts and you sound like an amazing and strong woman. As a fellow mom, I know our first inclination is always to put our children first. It seems like the doctors have a good plan in place to ensure all of your well...

Re: Newly diagnosed stage 4 colon cancer at 42. Looking for hope and inspiration.

I’ve been a patient at MSKCC in nyc since the beginning (10 plus years) But I received chemo at my local oncologist in NJ. Now that MSKCC opened a center in NJ near me, i now recieve treatments there, but still head to NYC to see my doc there.

Re: Newly diagnosed stage 4 colon cancer at 42. Looking for hope and inspiration.

I was diagnosed over 10 years ago, at the age of 42. I have been in and out of treatment over the last 10 years. I'm a mom to 4 and I've been able to actively raise my kids. When I'm in treatment, it is a little hard, but I have a great support team. And when I'm off of treatment, I just live my nor...
