Re: Chickened out of Pet Scan - Did I do the right thing?

First, I believe that you did the right thing in waiting, because that is your choice. Secondly, why is everyone stating that PET scans are not approved?? Every time my Dr requests a PET, my insurance approves. I have Tricare a Standard as my husband is retired Air Force. But the point us, my Drs re...

I do not post much but.... my user name is the one that means the most to me, my membership in Alpha Gamma Delta, an International Women's Fraternity. Yes, a sorority. Been a member for 41+ years and my full time job as a Province Director.

Re: 90 year old with recurrent colon cancer and dementia

My mother in law was 85 with severe dementia. My SIL was her primary caregiver and took her to the ER with labored breathing. A simple X-ray showed a mass in her lung. The doctors gave the family two real options, do the extensive scanning and biopsies to diagnose (she was a life long smoker), or to...

Re: Would you get chemo for stage IIA?

I did not have to make that choice as my tumor had not gone past the lining of the rectum. However, I did do research, talked with people, and continue to do so. My passion in life us sewing and embroidery. That means picking up a teeny tiny needle which is threaded making teeny tiny stitches, never...

Re: How do you tell a 5 year old daddy's girl that her daddy is dieing?

As an Early Childhood educator, I'm not sure that there really is a way to tell a 5 yr old that her Daddy is dying. Children just don't understand the concept of death. I love that you have asked Hospice for a Child Psychologist. Actually, if that isn't available, please press for someone who us tra...

Re: Mis diagnosis?

This is not going to be popular on this site and I know it is too late for you. At diagnosis I had a 4 cm polyploid mass very close to my anus. The GI sent me to his partner for an endorectal ultrasound after a PET that only showed the tumor as lighting up First the dude told me my name was Gibson, ...

Re: Gloom and doom

It's not easy. Remember though your cancer is "in situ".... Mine was, had a Transanal Microscopic Excision, cancer free. With the occasional diarreah episode. You have hope. Not a lot do.

Re: Dollars for Docs Website

Very interesting read and search. My GP had $1100, food and beverage. My colorectal surgeon was not listed. I'm more than comfortable with that.

Re: What doctors say while you're under anesthesia

Just after my diagnosis I had an EUS. I was told by a very compassionate nurse that the sedative might not work. I had no pain, but I remember every moment including the basic fact that my name was not Mrs Gibson. I argued about that FACT until they gave me another shot. I did not know at that time ...

Agree totally on copays. There needs to be so much more info out there on Medicare!! Please know that if you delay Medicare because of continued work there is a penalty for every month delayed. My husband's employer would still allow us to buy insurance through them, but Medicare would cost more whe...

Re: I'm new and concerned I may have Colon Cancer. Can you help?

Lydia, You asked if I had had bleeding. Yes, that was the reason for my colonoscopy. I STRONGLY agree with others that you talk to your Dr regarding medication for your anxiety. It's a very scary time and you are worried about your kids. If you can calm down, you will be a much better mom to your ki...

Re: I'm new and concerned I may have Colon Cancer. Can you help?

Five years ago I found out that I a 4 cm tumor in my retum. Quickly found a Board Certified Colo Rectal Surgeon. He did not like the EUS or amount of tissue removed for biopsy, so did a transanal microsurgery excision of the tumor. The tumor was only in the lining, completely temoved, no chemo, no r...
