Re: Xeloda vs. 5FU

DH did 5FU for 12 months and switched to Xeloda. He was on 3000mg a day. Diarrhea for most of the time, peeling hands and feet. Bilirubin went up so the onc delayed treatment for 7 weeks. He has now switched back. Yes, it was nice not carrying around the pump and it was nice going every 3 weeks (for...

Re: Black

I"m not a nurse, just a caregiver, but I did read that Zofran can also play havoc with depression/moods. DH has chemo on alternate Tuesdays and we've dubbed those following Thursdays "nap day" because he is so sleepy and dark. Usually, I can talk him into the car around lunch after th...

Re: Health Insurance Help

Couple of ideas: Nurse navigator or advocate at the hospital may be able to look over his work's FMLA policy and have ideas. Can he work from home? Work longer days on "off weeks"? I"m able to work 2 days a week at home (like today) during chemo weeks to help out DH. But I did have to...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

Mrs. Z, Sending you hugs and prayers. Am at a loss for words. Well, I will say do what feels right for you and for him, that's all that matters. As far as scheduling goes, DH has blood work on Friday or Saturday, maybe Monday, at a local lab; results are ready either the day before treatment or the ...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

Hi Mrs Z! Did you all go to the hospital today to get Mr Z checked out? We went up for FOLOX+A, first treatment since Dec 26. Sort of glad to be back into the routine. New scheduling system causing problems for us (a 3 hour wait between Dr and infusion? no thanks) but perhaps they will get it worked...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

I'm not claiming I'm amazing...Any supportive spouse, friend, relative, or buddy of a patient is a rockstar.

The patients are the real heroes.

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

Sending you some hugs Mrs Z and hope you are doing well. And you too RobinO. We just got back from blood draw; hopefully back on the treatment path Tuesday. Lab people couldn't find the Dr's orders but I happened to have his email and since DH is at that lab every other week, they did them! Then, su...

Re: FOLFOX REGIMEN SECOND TIME FOR PREVIOUSLY SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT????

DH was on FOLFOX for 7 months before discontinuing it for 4 months because of neuropathy. He started it up again in November and we are hoping to go for at least a few more months with it before switching to FOLFIRI. Dr. said people who stop before progression might have success adding it back in la...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

Mrs Zig, I can offer the following for swelling as we went through this after the hospital. DH's legs were so big around he could barely walk. Has he developed water blisters from the fluid retention? First thing we were told was to wrap the legs in ace bandages starting underneath the foot, around ...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

Mrs. Z, sending you hugs and prayers. Irinotecan may be an oldie but it's a goodie. Tough drug. Do watch out for the diarrhea and get some prescription strength help if needed. My bible verse last night (great ap on the Ipad) was Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find. I asked for a cure...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

Sending you hugs Mrs Z! There is no Smilies hug so sending some prayers too. We've had a 4 week chemo break due to high bilirubin and low platelets. Makes me nervous as I don't like to think what's going on in there without the OX to pound on things. Probably back at it on Feb 6 if this Monday's tes...

Re: Chemotherapy Journey

Our dentist recommended Biotene and Act. So DH uses one in the morning and one in the evening. Apple juice is good for getting things moving after Zofran.

DH and the Onc have decided that the Xeloda side effects are too much so it's back to the pump in a week.

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Congrats Lena! And a wish for MANY MORE GOOD SCANS!!! Robin01...you are so right...I don't have enough bad names for it. Mrs Z hope things are good in NY. Cold here. DH has never done the CA19-9...something worth asking about? What does it show differently than CEA? I too think the high bilirubin is...
