Re: 3-Year Scan results

Thank you everybody for the kind words :) . It's nice to have slightly lower health anxiety. Got my latest CEA back today: 4.5, which is down from 4.9 a few months ago. So that's cool. I suddenly have 1 swollen and sore lymph node on each side of my lower neck, so that's my latest health oddity! Oth...

Re: 3-Year Scan results

Thanks Deb m! That is really useful. Hopefully my onc team will see it the same way, and if not then I'll make them. I'm a stage IIIt4b, so in a whole different ballpark in terms of scary prognostics haha. Some people like to call it "stage 4 lite" so I am definitely not treating it flippa...

Re: 3-Year Scan results

Keep racking up those milestones Jay !!! I am with you though, and would push for a 4-5 year scan I didn't start getting aggressive scanning until AFTER my met was resected ... kind of like after Elvis left the building ! If your CEA is not a marker ( me neither ) ask the docs what they think they ...

Re: 3-Year Scan results

Thats great news. We were always told that the three year mark is a Hugh positive hurtle to reach and if you make it there ned, then your chances of being forever ned are extremely good! I , however would say that being a t4, you should push for a four year and a five year scan. My husband was a t4...

3-Year Scan results

= 3 years and 6 months NED today. Happy, to say the least. I am unsure of the stats, but I think this puts me in a pretty good position for long-term survival. While these results can't take away my pains, fatigue, or (immediately) psychological glitches - I do feel a deep anxiety has lifted somewh...

Re: What is your tumor marker (CEA)?

All studies say that anything over 10 indicates disease. I questioned my onc as to why my CEA has never fallen below 2.1 when I see others with no disease whose are .8, etc. He said "Maybe you're just one of those people with a normally high CEA". That blew my mind, since the highest it e...

Re: CEA ELEVATED

My CEA fluctuated wildly during chemo, which my onc said was likely due to the inflammation caused by the treatments (I suffered chemo induced colitis and kidney failure). Since finishing chemo in late 2014, my CEA has settled around the 4.0 - 5.0 mark. This is "high normal", but it seems ...

Re: CURED!

Congrats Diane!

"You're cured" - the quote we all want to hear our specialist recite.

I hope those two magical words and the reduced monitoring schedule help alleviate some of your health anxiety, as I know how crippling that can be.

I have had:

3 monthly CEA tests

Currently awaiting my 3-year CT scan, which was completed over 6 weeks ago ugh.

Re: So confused - Stage 2b T4aN0M0

T4b here - stage 3 though.

My advice is start with the biggest chemo weapon you have available. You can always discuss reducing it if you suffer terrible side effects.

My logic is simple. If I were to ever suffer a recurrence, I would want to know I did everything possible.

Best wishes.

3 year cancerversary

Just realised the 3 year anniversary of my surgery for Stage 3 t4b n1 transverse colon cancer was on the 25th of November. I have my 3 year scan coming in January, and I'm a couple of weeks overdue for my cea test. Current state of affairs: -Work is going well; I've been promoted twice since finishi...

Re: Questions and help for newly diagnosed

I was 31 at dx and told 5 year survival rates for stage 3 without chemo is only 50%.
Unacceptable.
Chemo is a MUST do for stage 3.
Side effects vary dramatically from person to person. I took xeloda but managed only 1 round of oxi. Still here today it seems.

Best wishes.
