Re: Cancer works on the mind

I really appreciate the replies and I do hate other have to deal with this but it's nice to have a place to go where other people understand what's going on. As a side note this green tea the doc has recommended drinking tastes like grass clippings in hot water. I don't know how many different ones ...

Cancer works on the mind

This is a rant. Probably 90% of the time I stay pretty upbeat about the whole cancer deal but at times it just works on your mind. Sometimes if I have more than usual bowel movements I wonder is the cancer growing. Or because my stamina seems shot am I reverting back. If I get hot in bed are the nig...

Re: How to deal with Doctors reluctance to use surgery as part of treatment

The scenarios doc went over with me depends on how well I respond to the treatment. 1. I get a complete response on liver mets and they go in and remove what needs to be from rectum. 2. I get complete response on one liver met and go remove the other. 3. The liver mets become stable (not sure what t...

Re: How to deal with Doctors reluctance to use surgery as part of treatment

My wife and I had this discussion over the weekend. I will have treatment number 10 this coming Monday and if doc doesn't act like he wants to be real aggressive with my treatment after first line of treatment is done I'll be getting a second opinion. Now I'm really pleased with my doc and he has to...

Re: Chemo Ports

I love my port. Makes blood work and then treatment so much easier and less uncomfortable for long periods. Not to mention, Oxaliplatin can be hard on veins. The only time I had an issue getting blood return in the port was oddly immediately before attempted liver surgery in March. So they had me g...

Re: Chemo Ports

I've seen other people not be able to draw blood from their port but able to get chemo through it. Every so often with mine I have to lay back and raise my arm for them to be able to draw blood.

Re: Starting Folfox and Avastin tomorrow

First round went okay. I have some cold sensitivity and fatigue and nausea but nothing too bad. For those on the same type of protocol how many treatments do you usually get in a cycle? Meant to mention in the post I just made. Let your doc know about the nausea. I had nausea on my first treatment ...

Re: Starting Folfox and Avastin tomorrow

I'm sure this is different for everyone. But what doc told me is 12 treatments of Folfox and avastin then a number of different scenarios can take place. One of the scenarios is he try's to get the cancer to a chronic state where I'm on and off chemo for life. Depending on how my cea and scans look....

Re: O/T-Solar Eclipse

I'd love to see it.
Supposedly we are in the path of it I'm just south of Knoxville Tennessee. But that's chemo day for me so I'll watch from the chair through the window.

Re: Starting Treatment soon-have some ?

When I get my oxi the nurses always put a card out for me not to have anything cold when they bring lunch around during treatment.
The cold sensitivity at first lasted about 5-7 days. Seems to be lasting longer with the more treatments I get.

Re: Pain Management

Make sure your husband is relaying to the doctor how severe the pain is. My wife doesn't go to every appointment but Doc does like for her to come to some. According to the Doc us guys sometimes aren't upfront with what is going on. The appointments my wife goes on Doc will spend 15 minutes asking h...

Re: Starting Folfox and Avastin tomorrow

Glad things are going well so far. Could you describe the logistics for those of us that will likely be doing this in the future? Do you go to an infusion center to get the pump and then bring it home or to a hotel and then bring it back or are you in the treatment center for the whole time (seems ...

Re: Starting Folfox and Avastin tomorrow

I had not really been thinking about side effects and just looking toward treatment but now one day out I am getting anxious. What have your experiences been like what should I be looking out for on the unexpected side effect front? How effective has the treatment been for those of you out there th...

FamiIy and friends on a bad week

Had treatment number 9 last Monday. And fatigue just totally kicked my butt off and on all week. Ended up just working about 15-16 hours last week. On the plus side I haven't had many stomach issues this time. It's kind of like let's spin a wheel and see what we want to screw with this week. Go figu...
