Radiation induced menopause

Hi all! I am a 34yo female with rectal cancer. I’ve been told that this radiation I’m undergoing will kill my ovaries and push me into menopause. And I just don’t know what to expect. I guess I will just KNOW?? I am so confused by it all. I guess my periods will just stop?? Did everyone have horribl...

Re: Newly Diagnosed Stage 3C Rectal Cancer

Just wanted to say I hear you and it sounds like we are very similar in our respective journeys. I was diagnosed in February with Stage 3 Colorectal (right at the crux of the two) Cancer. I had my port installed Monday and 1st round of FOLFOX starts on Thursday. Hey JackabeeMom, god bless you, it’s...

Radiation tips for rectal cancer

I start my radiation treatment on 3/18. I’ve read on here about vaginal stenosis and I plan to address this with my gyno/radiologist before treatment. Any other tips on getting through it?? Did everyone have the horrible side effects I’ve read about on here?? I wasn’t concerned about radiation until...

Re: New here and questions about disappearing/shrinking nodes

Nordy1, any update on your scans? I just had an appt today and they saw “indeterminate” spots on my lung and liver. I’m in the same spot.

Re: Genetic test results

Oh KimT I am sorry to hear that. I know and that’s why I was asking...my mom had breast cancer from taking hormone replacement for so long. I am worried even radiation will kill my ovaries but I guess I’ll find out

Re: Genetic test results

My genetic testic came back with no mutations detected. After several meetings with a genetic counselor, we know that there is an unknown genetic factor.... My grandfather was diagnosed with CRC at 51, my father at 60 and myself at 40. I continue to grow polyps at an alarmingly fast rate. I current...

Re: Genetic test results

Congratulations! The wait to hear whether one has Lynch is not pleasant, is it? BTDT. Definitely good that you are meeting with the genetic counselor. If I were you I'd read up on the subject so that you can ask the best possible questions...and write them down before you go in. :) FWIW, the only p...

Genetic test results

I got diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer at 33. Got genetic testing and the counselor really seemed to think it would come back positive for lynch. It came back negative - no mutations found. I’m taking results to md Anderson genetic counselor this week. Just surprised as I had prepared myself for...

Re: Made it almost 2 years, now it’s back. Any MD Anderson advice?

I don’t have any advice as far as doctors or treatment but I can tell you it’s been very easy and streamlined for me to work locally with my onc for chemo and md Anderson for my scans/treatment plan. I have been able to get appts easily around when I will be at md for my scans and I have been impres...

Re: Newly Diagnosed Stage 3C Rectal Cancer

Also labs4me, how much did her tumor shrink after 4 rounds of FOLFOX? I am worried they’ll make me do more chemo after these first 4 but I will roll with whatever they tell me to do. I have been impressed with MD Anderson and the team there. I am doing my chemo locally back at home but I haven’t dec...

Re: Newly Diagnosed Stage 3C Rectal Cancer

Labs4Me - oh thank you for the reply!! The plan I do believe is the 4 rounds of FOLFOX, 6 weeks of radiation/chemo pill, the big surgery (which will require a plastic surgeon, urologist too for me as well) then more chemo I am sure. I am glad to hear her surgery went well - who was her surgeon, dr y...

Newly Diagnosed Stage 3C Rectal Cancer

Hi all - I am a 33yo recently diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. Complete shock as cancer/colorectal cancer does not run in my family. My tumor is staged at T4N2a (I think I wrote that right). Anyways, came back home for holidays and 12/20/18 developed a cyst around tumor which put me in pain, se...
