Re: OT- My dog Harlee has passed away

So sorry Lee. I know the pain of losing a pet is just as hard as losing a loved one. I’m glad Harlee had a good quality of life

Re: Will they operate in more than one spot affected. Im so sad

Trying, I am so sorry you are going through this. Please, you have nothing to apologize for. Let your family and friends help you. From a caregiver’s perspective—because this disease affects everyone around you—there is an enormous amount of helplessness that your family and friends probably feel. L...

Re: Not sure if this is a stupid question, but ...

Thank you both for your input. I keep reading things like “make sure you get to the best cancer hospital” and it makes me second guess whether my mom is in the best hands. I have been here with her for the past two months but leave to go home to the opposite coast later this week. I worry about not ...

Not sure if this is a stupid question, but ...

There are two very good hospitals where my mom lives in a large SoCal area. One is affiliated with MD Anderson. My stupid question is, is there really that big of a difference?? Both are highly rated but one is, well, MDA. My mom’s network is with the other hospital although as a Medicare patient wi...

Re: Julie Yip Williams passed away last Monday, Mar 19th, 2018

I am new here and didn’t know Julie but I have been reading her blog. I am sad. I am grateful. I am angry. I am hopeful. I am overwhelmed with information. I am touched by the human kindness I have seen. I am bolstered by the courage of so many others. I am forever changed, like every cancer patient...

Re: Question about chemo side effects

Thank you for your responses. I am a realist and this is what I suspected. First round being fairly easy. I am heading back home next week and won’t be here with my mom for the next few rounds. I want to be able to prepare my dad and brother and aunt for what they can expect.

Question about chemo side effects

This may be wishful thinking but my mom doesn’t seem to be experiencing any severe side effects on the Xelox regime...so far. She started her chemo last Wednesday. About three days after her infusion of oxaliplatin, she had mild tingling, cold sensitivity and was tired and lost her appetite. That la...

Re: I declined Oxaliplatin

According to everything I've read, Oxaliplatin DOES improve results in patients with dMMR, including those with Lynch and suspected Lynch. Here's one example: https://watermark.silverchair.com/djv438.pdf?token=AQECAHi208BE49Ooan9kkhW_Ercy7Dm3ZL_9Cf3qfKAc485ysgAAAaQwggGgBgkqhkiG9w0BBwagggGRMIIBjQIBA...

Re: I declined Oxaliplatin

Thank you for this. My mom is 75 and I worry about her handling the Oxi and am also starting to question the benefit of it for a person of her age vs the potential side effects and subsequent decline in quality of life. Also just found out her tumor is MSI so genetic testing is next. It’s my underst...

Re: Worried Daughter

Emkay, I could have written your exact post two months ago. Almost exactly. My mom is 75 and was feeling tired, losing weight and having pain in her right side abdomen area. She’s always been healthy and never had a colonoscopy. So right after the procedure, as Mom was recovering, doc came out to ta...

Question about MSI

My mom is having genetic testing on her tumor. She is MSI. I’m confused by some things I’ve read. Would/should her treatment change from Xelox regime to something different? Forgive me for not remembering but there were 4 things that are indicators (not sure if that’s the right terminology). She has...

Re: And so it begins ...

Thank you so much for all this helpful info. By the end of the evening Mom was feeling a little tingling in her fingertips. How quickly do side effects usually kick in? I thought it took a couple days. I hope Mom getting tingly so quickly is not a sign that she’s going to have neuropathy problems.
