Re: Scared I have colon cancer at 17

L Lee[/quote Hi, So sorry for what you are going through. Do get that cat scan, but I would also really push for a colonoscopy. That will give you a true diagnoses of what is causing your symptoms. Please understand, many things could be causing your symptoms, cancer is just one possibility. By the...

Re: Bad News

I think her KRAS mutation might rule out Keytruda for us, but I'll ask. Thank you. Kras doesn’t rule out Keytruda, however it is usually not recommended for MSS. There is a thread on here that tells of a MSS patient getting Keytruda due to her high tumour mutuational burden. If you check your mom’s...

Re: Adjuvant immunotherapy

Stewsbetty, I'm in the USA. $11K was the price negotiated by my insurer at the time of my first infusion, Cigna. Otherwise it would be something like $15K. I don't know what my current insurer, Anthem, pays for it. We hit the deductible for me so quickly this year--my H, who does that stuff, lowere...

Re: Possible Third Diagnoses

If I were you I would definitely look for someone locally going through cancer to connect with. I have a very good friend with a different form of cancer and we can have real conversations that are impossible with others. Maybe just show up to one or two support meeting and see if there is someone y...

Re: Hemicolectomy recovery

I don’t think I will be super helpful but I had a right hemicolectomy in June 2016. I used a lot of loperamide during my chemo (finished February 2017) but since finishing chemo haven’t found a real need for it. The only real change I have found is a need to avoid a really fatty rich meal. This can ...

Re: Keytruda

The drs will monitor you each time for pneumonitis, colitis, blood tests for your thyroid, probably a few more too. :) Thank you! Which Facebook page? I was on Colon Cancer support, but there really isn’t a whole lot of “support”, a lot of questions, no answers, and too many people researching the ...

Re: Keytruda

I’m MSI h as well. I have been on Keytruda since September 2017. The side effects (if you don’t have a major reaction) are quite minimal. I was able to go back to work 3 days a week as a teacher. I was completely unable to work while on chemo. In my experience there is absolutely no comparison in t...

Re: Keytruda

I got offered keytruda yesterday, I’ve been on regular chemo for about 3 years minus surgery time and everything is held at bay for the time being. A “maybe” tumor in pelvis and lung, they aren’t quite sure. My question is the timing, who stopped chemo that was working well try something different?...

Re: Adjuvant immunotherapy

My oncologist said we'd do an MRI in/after the fourth month. At least I think that's what he said, month, not cycle. that would be around the 7th cycle. Because my nodes and liver met didn't show up on a CT scan, we'll go straight to MRI. I've read various things about how long it takes keytruda to...

Canadians and Immunotherapy

Hello all,

Looking to gather stories of successful users of immunotherapy in Canada. Please share your story here. Or contact me through the PM button. It would be neat to get a group together for potentially lobbying for faster approval.

Thanks,

Beth

Re: Adjuvant immunotherapy

I was MSI-H with no known masses after surgery as of last spring, so I had to do FOLFOX as first-line adjuvant therapy. I finished FOLFOX in November, and my scans in July and November showed nothing. CEA is not a marker for me. My oncologist and I were uneasy with this, since I had originally had ...

Re: Keytruda

If you are MSI I think drs very willing to prescribe for stage 4. I am in Canada. I have been on Keytruda since September 2017. I have had very minimal side effects from it and it has worked wonders in my body. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the same effects for everybody. Let me know if you have any...

Re: What to do after immunotherapy works

I just went in for a consult with an oncologist for this very reason. My brief. I have been on Keytruda since September of 2017. Dramatic response for 9 months. I have now leveled off to stable with one node measuring at 1.8 cm. I am receiving the drug free through Merck’s compassionate care program...

Re: Husband starting keytruda, any advice?

My husband is going to start keytruda. For those on it, do you get premeds before infusion? What are the side effects? How do you monitor for response to it? His CEA now is 5 and has not significantly increased even if he’s having ascites. How soon do you know that you have positive response. Any o...
