Re: Scans, who reads them?

Well, that's frustrating. I'd be seriously PO'd. I got scan results on the phone this morning from my surgeon's medical assistant. Presumably, she was just reading from the radiologist's report. I've been assuming the radiologists would know as much about interpreting scans as the doctor (or more) s...

Re: PSK

PSK is the only thing we buy from Life Extension because it is our best PSK deal. It has a good balance with WBC-RBC-platelet effects, the best combination so far. LEF tends to be high end on price and product. We buy a lot of stuff from Swanson for the good deals. We have bought the Swanson "...

PSK

Does anyone have information on a good source for PSK? It seems somewhat difficult to find. I recently ordered a brand from Amazon (Swanson Herbs?) but have no idea which companies are reputable and which are not when it comes to this stuff. While we're on the subject, does anyone feel as though the...

Re: Unwanted surgical surprises

Of course it possible to have surprise like that. How common? I don't know I will say try not to borrow trouble. Those thoughts will only drive you nuts and with this disease there's already plenty of that going around I know, I know, you're right. I wish I could quit tormenting myself with this cr...

Unwanted surgical surprises

Anyone know how common it is for the surgeon to find more cancer than expected when they open you up? I've been having some irrational (or maybe not?) fears about this since hearing about a colleague with ovarian cancer who had this problem. Can someone help me understand how this occurs? If there's...

Colectomy + hysterectomy?

Anyone here who had a hysterectomy during your initial surgery? My doctor has proposed that we add on a hysterectomy to my bowel resection if I turn out to be Lynch positive. We're definitely done having kids and I've always had issues with endometriosis, so my husband is asking why I wouldn't just ...

So you scanned today too? Good luck!!! Here's hoping we both get some positive news. I'm taking your advice and ignoring the CDs till I've heard back from the doctor.

Re: Folfox?

I'm new to this too Cathy, so I don't have a lot of advice to offer, but just wanted to say--from the perspective of another mom with young kids--that I agree with your reasoning and would do the same in your shoes. Please keep us posted on how it goes. I have a feeling I'll be here asking similar q...

Re: Discharged from the hospital today

Thanks so much for the detailed account. I'll be where you are in just a few short weeks, so it's good to get a sense of what to expect. Take care of yourself! I'll be keeping fingers crossed that you get a good pathology report.

Good question--I have no idea if there's a report on there too or not. He didn't say anything about a report?

Just had my lung scan...

...to determine if the cancer has spread (liver was clear). The tech actually gave me a CD with the images, which I wasn't expecting at all. So do I look at it? I'm not even sure what I'd be looking for, other than spots. The tech gave no hints about what he saw.

What would you do?

Re: Size of mass at diagnosis?

Thanks all. You've actually made me feel a little better. The doctor who did my colonoscopy was able to finish--he went all the way to the end and removed two polyps that both turned out to be benign. Fortunately, it doesn't look as though I'm anywhere near the point of obstruction. I actually saw t...

Size of mass at diagnosis?

Does anyone know what the average size of a colorectal mass is at diagnosis? What would be considered small vs. medium-sized vs. large? Dr. Google is failing me on this one. Anyone have a largish mass that was staged less than III or IV? I'm assuming there must be a pretty strong correlation between...

Long-range effects of surgery?

Getting ready to have a sigmoid colon resection in another 2 weeks or so. We're currently waiting on the results of genetic testing to see if I might have Lynch syndrome (in which case the doctor wants to take out a bigger piece and do a full hysterectomy at the same time). My surgeon has indicated ...
