Re: APR Wound Healing

I had my APR on December 18th 2014, and I still have some drainage to this day. Ditto for me, and my surgery was Aug 30th 2013, soon to be 3 years ago. The continued drainaged is caused by chemo, Stivarga in my case, as it inhibits wound healing. I had no idea when going into surgery that I could h...

Re: AUGH - what next? Stivarga, is it worth it?

Sorry your mom is going through this. Deciding on the next steps is never easy... Stivarga has been working for me for 19 months and counting. Unfortunately, like any other treatment, it's far from a sure thing for everyone but it is possible to get more than 2 months progression free. I second the ...

Re: APR TOMORROW FISTULA REPAIR - SO SCARED

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow Marianne. I had an APR almost 3 years ago. I was also very scared, thinking I might die and I didn't want to deal with the fact that I would have a permanent colostomy when I woke up from surgery. My nerves were so raw that I was crying in the hallway waiting to be b...

Re: Stivarga questions

For the side effects, do you have them all the time? I felt like my first round I was pretty good except for a couple days. For me, fatigue starts right away and gets progressively worse until midway through my off week. Most of the other side effects start showing up at around day 10, in varying d...

Re: Stivarga questions

Today I found out my cancer has returned from a surgery in 11/13 then 6mt round of folfox. They found an infected lymph node and I've been asked to participate in a study where they switch the order of medicines by using stivarga 1st. My doctor feels I could go either way. Stivarga or Folfiri. I th...

Re: Stivarga questions

I'm sure you know that, as with any other chemo, not everone responds the same to Stivarga. But I can give you my point of view as someone who responds well to it. 4 pills per day was too toxic for me. I lasted one cycle on that dosage and my onc chose to reduce me to 3 pills per day for the next 2 ...

Re: Upset.... I need help from anyone who was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer!

I am getting so upset because I see that other people have responded so good to surgery with no complications and here my poor fiance still dealing with stupid uncomfortable pain Not everyone recovers from this type surgery in the same way or in the same timeframe. It's major surgery and even the b...

Nope. It started right there on the scan table, but luckily I have a colostomy.

Re: CT Scan Tuesday

Good luck with your CT scan Judy :-) I just got back from the hospital for own my ct scan and the digestive issues have already started. The contrast drink and/or the iodine empty me out better than any colonoscopy prep i've ever done . Such fun. I hope your results are good and that you can ...

Re: Question on Port Placement

I was only offered local anaesthesia when I got my port in. I didn't enjoy it much but have been through worse.

I'm impressed that you've done all that chemo without ever having a port. Crazy!

Re: What people say

You are definitely not crazy. A lot of people suck at being silent when they don't know what to say. Or they think that being encouraging and positive is always what you need. I usually just nod, smile and change the subject if I think the person just won't "get" it. I'll explain more if i...

Re: New Diagnosis- stage 1 rectal cancer

I 100% agree with Jaynee. I suspect a lot of stage 1 folks move on fairly quickly after their treatments. A lot don't want to stick around in a cancer support group once they are cancer-free. My greatest wish for you is that you get the support that you need from the group now and move on quickly li...
