Re: mCRC STAGE IV OR RECURRENT PATIENTS thread - ONGOING

Welcome BobO - glad you found us here. Today I see my oncologist. No one called this week with my CEA. I don't know if that is good news or bad news - they always call me... This will be my first appointment since my decision to stop chemo for now. I haven't been given the results of my CT colonogra...

Re: Sessile Serrated Polyp

If you only had ONE polyp, the standard is to return in 3 years. My husband had 3 flat sessile polyps (lower in the colon), and two large mucinous polyps (high in the colon) that ended up with both hyperplastic and adenomatous cells. Because he had FIVE polyps, he had to return in one year. His one ...

Re: CT Colonography

I like the Mayo suggestion of just the 4 Dulcolax. That was part of my prep anyway. Mine just got a lot more involved than that.

Re: Any Stage IV's that have been cured?

Sorry Kathryn but it depends on which doctor you ask. My oncologist and surgeon say I am now a Stage IVa and no longer Stage IIIB. Rectal cancer, unlike most cancers, has a clinical staging and a pathological staging. I guess I really don't know the complete dialogue for clinical staging, but patho...

Re: CT Colonography

The prep was horrid. If I have to do this again, I will INSIST on doing my usual prep and just adding their contrast in if they need me to do that. The procedure itself was a lot like a colonoscopy (I'm awake for mine because they don't give me enough drugs - I take 3 times the normal amount to put ...

Re: Any Stage IV's that have been cured?

DucFanDan, You'd be restaged for Stage IVa which is a new subset of staging for those who have 1 or very few small mets and can have surgery with curative intent. I was up staged to Stage IVa 20 months ago and had a liver resection 18 1/2 months ago. Still NED as of last week. Stage IV colon cancer...

Re: 5-FU & Xeloda Extremely Allergic-

Chemo enhances the radiation, but the radiation is effective - chemo or not. You already had quite a bit of 5-FU. Honestly I wouldn't sweat this. The radiation does more for you than the chemo at this point - it is only to boost the radiation a bit. I have a sensitivity to 5-FU and it was found to n...

Re: For the Ladies (and Clear scan report)

Great to hear your good news! I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago (cervical cancer, which is now suspected to have actually been uterine). Everyone is different, but I was doing well within a week, including sitting at my desk to work (home office) and doing light housework (laundry, dishes, sweeping)...

Re: CT Colonography

http://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info.cfm?pg=ct_colo I've had so much going on in October - from being bedridden and really sick, to going to Miami for the CCA conference as soon as I was able to leave my house (and getting sick while I was there) to being home for only one day before turning around...

CT Colonography

I generally only post my personal updates within the mCRC thread, but I figured this topic may be of interest to all - in case any of you have had this procedure or will have it in the future. I was scheduled for a CT Colonography due to pain and elimination issues that had changed over time - remin...

Re: Other insurance options to out of state consultation

As a metastatic colorectal cancer patient, SSDI is automatically approved if you apply, and you are unable to work as you used to. You can still be working a little, but at a big reduction from the past, making less than just over $1000/mo. Once you are approved for SSDI, you automatically qualify f...

Re: can I have a glass of wine?!!!??

I have never had any liver involvement and my liver function is always great. So my oncologist says it is ok for me to have one alcoholic beverage in a day, but advises against any more than that. One for women, two for men. (We metabolize it differently and generally men are larger.) Should I have ...

Re: It's happening way too fast

Sorry you are dealing with all of this. Have you seen a genetic counselor and been tested for Lynch Syndrome? With two primary cancers under age 50 you really should be tested. With a larger mass, moving quickly is smart. Unlike a tumor in your breast, which won't cause issues putting your life at r...
