Re: Had endoscopy, lesions found. Also hernia surgery this Thursday

My son just had a hernia repaired and the mesh was not used. He said the dr told him it was tiny so he would not use. I have seen they have had problems with the mesh as well. I also have a hernia at my ileostomy sight. It is small and does not bother me, so my surgeon wants to just watch and not do...

Re: Anastomosis Breakdown?

Does the doctor think the enemas could be causing the issue? Also, can they see anything via exam or scope in the office? I know my surgeon does an endoscope every visit to be sure everything looks good. I also do daily enemas. My anastomosis is prob 2-3 cm from the anal verge, that is why I ask if ...

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

This is my question about wait and watch. I had a sigmoid and pet scan after radio/chemo. The pet scan showed no cancer and the surgeon said all that was left was scar tissue after the sigmoid. I did have surgery and the pathology did show minimal residual cancer cells in the area where tumor was, ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I went without a BM for about 3 1/2 days and then it started slowly and then a day like today where it's about 15 hours of clustering. I must say that it's nice not to have to deal with bathroom stuff but not going for over two days gives me anxiety over a blockage. Water and gas were getting passe...

Re: I need help deciding treatment after surgery!! THIS isn't Easy!!

I did the chemo radiation before surgery. It worked well, as the surgeon did a sigmoidoscopy before surgery and said only scar tissue remained, so may not need chemo after surgery. The pathology showed clear margins, 0/24 lymph nodes, but minimal residual cancer cells. Chemo was recommended. My onco...

Re: Lung mets 2mm

I ... had repeat scans 3 months later, 6 months after that, and at 6 months again. In a similar circumstances I had a follow up scan in 3 month (low dose chest only) and then my regular yearly full body scan. They have not noticed any significant change in these nodules and I was told not to worry ...

Re: Lung mets 2mm

I had a 4 mm nodule show up in a scan 1 year after finished adjuvant chemo. Too small to biopsy or pet scan to pick up, so had repeat scans 3 months later, 6 months after that, and at 6 months again. No change in the nodule was seen and radiologist did attribute it to inflammation as I do have infla...

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

That is awesome news. . The watch and wait option is very interesting to me. Losing most of your rectum and having surgery causes a whole set of new problems. I have figured out what works for me but there are definitely lasting side effects from both the surgery and chemotherapy. I know there is an...

Re: Percentage That Have A Complete Clinical Response To Chemo/Radiation

I had a complete clinical response. After chemo/rad my surgeon did a sigmoid and said all that was left was scar tissue, and a pet scan showed no sign of cancer. He did not really seem surprised, and said depending what pathology shows after surgery I may not have to do chemo. The pathology after su...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

So glad it has resolved itself. I had a small bowel obstruction 4 weeks after my resection. The pain was horrible. I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 weeks. I walked around with an ng tube for a week and then ended up having surgery to remove scar tissue and at the same time my surgeon reversed my ileo...

Re: Using a vaginal dilator after radiation

I can bleed sometimes if toilet paper is rough. I went to my gynecologist and he gave me some Premarin cream to use externally to plump the tissue. It has seemed to help. He said it is definitely from radiation.
