Re: Question for Stage IV

Yes, I know how it feels when 'palliative care' is written on the files. It gave me the shivers when I found out. It came as a surprise as onc had agreed to go for aggressive treatment. It turned out that their guidelines require that label for stage 4, always. I'm very grateful that she was willing...

Re: Any Cure for Stage 4 CRC -

Sorry to hear. I hope you'll find a treatment that will be effective. I was stage 4 too. In my case the presence of liver mets was known from the beginning and the chemo during the 6 months following the colon surgery made them shrink sufficiently to allow liver resection. Am NED since; no more trea...

Re: Lymph Nodes Question

Two out of 27 or so nodes were positive. (Standard) chemo plus (standard) resections were success. "All clear" at two years in Oct, I hope. See mt sig.

I hope the oxi will be effective. Thanks for giving it a try. I made my mets shrink from round 3.

Re: pill vs. port

I did the 2 weeks on/1 week off pills cycle, kicking each one off with a full day of infusions. Found the 8 cycles doable, despite significant side effects (rashes, H/F problems, etc, etc). First two days after IV were difficult, but felt better each day following and really enjoyed the pill-free we...

Re: Stage 4 Mucinous Adenocarcinoma

If she was *my* mother I'd strongly recommend her to try the chemo and see how it goes. As C has already spread there could well be tiny particles anywhere. No way to get at these before they grow big enough to be seen, without chemo. I was 65 and in good health when CC with 2 liver mets were discov...

Re: If anyone can help me it would be so appreciated!!

Hi GL Just want to say hello. Not that I can add much to what already has been written, but maybe I can offer a little help overcoming your fright. I was in similar circumstance as you find yourself in, some 20 months ago: grown-in CC with mets in liver. Like you in operable places, fortunately. Not...

Re: End of life question about bilirubin

Was her issues caused by high bilirubin, or was that just your experience in general ? Julia, bilirubin levels will shoot up when liver isn't working properly and may well lead to toxic build up of ammonia /cause delirium with the effects that jankio describes. Experienced his myself when the (litt...

Re: Bright red blood in stool 2-3 times a year

doc scheduled me to get a colonoscopy sometime in the coming week. Congrats on having it done soon. Until then, try not to worry and stay away from google (and this club  ). There is little you can do until having your intestines properly checked. No amount of worrying will make any differenc...

Re: No sugar??

One of the ideas that circulate among proponents of alternative therapy for cancer is that cancer thrives on sugar and because of this, cancer can be starved to death by avoiding to eat sugar. The link that Mydogphoebe [what's in a name  / :) ] gave, reviews some of the research into the effe...

Re: What to drink? Everything tastes metallic

I would eat drink anything that taste good . . Agree. I'd just quit drinking Cola when the rollercoaster came in, but found that during chemo I needed things that tasted sharp. Went back on Coke, liked Tonic water too. Started drinking bubble water. Hated anything sweet, like packed fruit juices, b...

Re: I'm new and concerned I may have Colon Cancer. Can you help?

Sorry to hear Lydia, I'd wished the drinks were the worst you needed to go thru. I have no RC experience, so I'd better leave this to more experienced members of this exclusive club. Please don't panic at this stage. First get all the facts. You need to know about alternatives before you decide on a...

Use large glasses and set the kitchen timer to ring when it's time for the next one need to go down.
When time is there, don't think and mechanically drink in one long gulp. You'll survive.

Wow that's great! Are you saying you had a year of chemo, then had your liver resection, then a year to fully recover from the resection?, and did you have chemo after the resection also? Not exactly. ⋅ was diagnosed late 2012 ⋅ Treatments between Jan and end of Oct 2013: colon ...

Re: Question for Stage IVs

Have been NED for 20 months now, after the liver surgery of October 2013; which was one month after chemo ended (see my sig). Quarterly cycles for CT's and blood checks have now been lengthened to 6 months. For whatever reason, Xelox + Avastin proved *very* effective and may have killed off all C ce...
