Re: Just had my latest colonoscopy

My 5 year scope is coming up in August and I'm already anxious about it.....and, of course, the prep. They Rx'd me Preopik which hubs had a few years back BUT.....I am doing the Gatorade/Miralax/Dulcolax prep. I figure that if places like Mass General, Cleveland Clinic, and MSKCC (to name just a few...

13 years ago today!

This week has been a really difficult one for me....lots of drama at work. It reminded me a lot of the fear, horror, etc. that I felt on 6/22/2006 when I heard those three words...YOU HAVE CANCER. I am still around, 13 years later, to tell people to always have hope. My journey was certainly not eas...

Re: UPDATE ON PETE

Good to hear from you Julie.....it's been a LONG time.
It's hard to believe it was 8 years ago when we first talked
about resections and such.
Glad to hear that you are all doing well!

Re: Laid off before Dx

I'm not trying to be confrontational here BUT.....the following statement is NOT correct for every situation: "In exchange for those $12k you get access to any approved therapies, limited wait times compared to other health systems and access to top oncologists." If you live in a state tha...

Re: Laid off before Dx

Please, keep the COBRA. I can't tell you how many people I talked to who have lost their job/retired (and were able to keep COBRA) but didn't keep their COBRA because of the expense. They opted for an Obamacare policy instead. Subsidies aside, there are some HUGE differences between employer sponsor...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

As I said, mine ONLY got tricky with the CT after 5 years....otherwise, I was getting CT's every 6 months (same as standard protocol) in years 3,4 and into 5 with flex sigs on the same schedule. NO issues with me.

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Mine had no issue...I believe because the standard of care protocol calls for testing every 3 - 6 months even following traditional methods. The only time my insurance pitched a fit was at after my 5 year mark. They didn't want to pay for the CT scan. Instead they told me that I could have a chest x...

Re: O/T - my furbaby has cancer....hard last weekend - UPDATED

Today was very very hard. Roxy was our last furbaby and I know that I just can't do this again. Hubby and I came home and cleaned up everything. Roxy had four beds....in various rooms. All of the blankets...and so much other stuff is now in a box my office chair came in (and all of it doesn't even f...

Re: O/T - my furbaby has cancer....hard last weekend

I'm not sure why I allow myself to revisit this over and over....but I need to. This is our last night in the house with our little Roxy. Tomorrow she will be able to join her sisters wherever our furbabies go and then not be in pain, have no more cancer and can once again enjoy the life that she so...

O/T - my furbaby has cancer....hard last weekend - UPDATED

I know this is O/T but so many of us on here are furbaby lovers I knew that you would understand. I've known for 6 months that my furbaby has TCC and her time is drawing near. This sounds cold and calculated but we are taking her in on Monday to allow her to leave this world in PEACE and relatively ...

Re: Vaginal stenosis - an issue for women with rectal cancer

I understand the doctors concerns about HRT....BUT....HRT from years ago is NOT the same as it is today. Obviously, if a person has a STRONG family history of estrogen based cancers, I do understand the concern. However, preparations like Premarin which ONLY absorb the hormones vaginally (and honest...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Jolene, Just a quick reply as I am getting ready to go to work. My treatment was over 12 years ago so I will remember as best as I can. 1. A CEA every 3 months for the first 2 years....then I believe it went to every 6 months for years 3+. Since year 7 or so, I've been having it drawn yearly at my p...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi Jolene, Here are the answers (I can't see your post so hope that I remember all of your questions) 1. My doctor didn't recommend oxi for me as a stage II patient. The studies don't necessarily show that oxi for the stage II patient (with no negative prognostic factors) shows a significant increas...
