Re: First colonoscopy so what do I ask and expect

Hey Melissa, First, I'm a man so I have no clue how it affects breastfeeding. I can tell you it's no big deal. You go to sleep, it's over and you're out the door in about an hour. You will be groggy for a while and can't drive that day so someone will need to take you home. You should be fine the ne...

Re: Any younger men post rectal surgery?

Although the replies aren't exactly what I had hoped for, there is some hope. I backed out of surgery, instead I'm starting neoadjuvant FOLFOX next week (12 Feb 2018). I couldn't deal with the risks just yet, as I consider that equivalent to a death sentence. While the surgeon considered this "...

Re: When msk isnt within reach

Breathe. MSK is good but they don’t live in a vacuum, everything they do in regards to treatment is available at other major centers, I had pretty good luck in Houston at MD Anderson. The frontline treatments are pretty standardized throughout USA and Canada, Oncologist just don’t make things up or...

Re: When msk isnt within reach

Hey Trying, There is no doubt cancer care is outrageously expensive - without great insurance over the past 2 years I'd be broke and living in a cardboard box (well, probably a tent in the mountains somewhere). But over my working career I've paid dearly for that insurance so I figure me and the ins...

Re: Coffee...yes or no?

There is a small market here, that sells only greens. They grow vertical, lite weight plants. They might be onto the right solutions. Butt you gotta eat greens, and only greens!! Lee And I am just not willing to do that. I love to eat. You put it in front of me and I will eat it (except guacamole -...

Is your life worth the fight?

Once again I come to this board share a story. One year ago a friend of mine came to me and asked if I would speak to a friend of theirs about my cancer journey. This person had been diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer about 5 years ago. Recently, the cancer came back and spread...now she was stage ...

Re: Coffee...yes or no?

Drink and eat what you want. If you already have cancer, it's certainly not going to make it worse. If you don't, it's certainly not going to cause you to get it. Unless you grow your own food and control it from seed to harvest, you really have little say in what's going into your body. From the ge...

Re: 5FU infusions

Thanks, gina. I highly suspect his reaction has to be with his sense of masculinity. He can brave major surgeries and come out on top of them, fighting a good fight and being tough. On the other hand, he perceives having a pump that could possibly be seen by others as a sign of weakness. It's a sma...

Re: Extreme fatigue Erbitux wants to quit

Hey Sakkurt,

Thank you for the kind words. Your post made my day...my week. The only reason I joined this forum was to hopefully be a help to someone else who's as scared as I was when diagnosed with this awful disease.

I wish you and your dad well.

Re: Extreme fatigue Erbitux wants to quit

Hey Etaner27, I really wish I had an answer for you. Chemo sucks...no way around it. Fatigue and extreme constipation were my worst side effects. There were times I was so tired I didn't think I even had the strength to breathe. But I honestly believe what got me through it all was to never give in ...

Re: New Here

Not sure about the keto diet and supplements, but if your dad is healthy/strong enough he can get through this. Before doing chemo, make sure you tell his oncologist about any supplements he's taking as some can interfere with the chemo. Where is he being treated? You can search my postings to see m...

Re: Managing erractic mood swings. Is psychologist the answer ?

Hey Jolene, Mood swings/lashing out can be a sign of bigger mental health issues. Not saying that's the case for you. But I know a couple where the husband was very sick and the wife was the one with mood swings. Hers started prior to him getting sick, but seemed to escalate. It was wearing him down...

Re: Please help

I stand by my prior comment. Have you gotten a second opinion from a major cancer center?

Re: Please help

Hey Naniconi,

My advice would be to get a second, third or fourth opinion at a major cancer center if you already haven't. Where is your husband being treated?
