Re: Scared of surgery in need of wisdom...

You’ll be fine. Makes no sense to worry, as you’ll have no control of the situation. Just keep thinking about the next day.

Re: How long does MSK take to get approval to install HAI pump?

Hi, I don’t get your question. Based on your case they decide whether the HAI protocol is appropriate or not. I actually hadn’t heard of the treatment at all. I was on chemo for a three months, my tumors shrunk and the next thing I know I was going in for pump placement. I don’t think you can ask up...

Re: Codeman vs Medtronic

You're on the best path for long-term, curative treatment, in my view. I got the Codman infusion pump almost ten years ago, an I'm at present free of cancer and no longer in any treatment. The important thing is that the doctors and nurses have been properly trained to implement this life-saving tre...

Re: Thoughts on Stage IV...

When I first checked, 10 years ago it was 5%!! So the fact that is now 14% is a positive. As others have pointed out the problem is that they lump together people with a single, tiny met on the liver or the lung, with people who have cancer spread throughout their bodies, that’s why you get such low...

Re: Questions regarding Folfox treatments

Tell your doctor exactly what your side effects are, they can be pretty severe and can last a long time. When I told him about my neuropathy he cut down and also gave me a break a couple of times. Folfox is an effective concoction and the goal is to get through the recommended course even with break...

All done...hard to believe

Went to MSK yesterday for scheduled blood work, after what seemed an interminable wait, my doctor tells me that: "You're finished" No more scans, bloodwork. After almost ten years of this journey, I was left a bit stunned. Happy, but, as I told him, it felt like a divorce. I will NOT miss ...

Re: CEA jump from 2.8 to 33 in 6 weeks -- what to make?

You haven’t had surgery to resect the liver tumors yet? If you’re not out of the woods yet then it’s the main reason your CEA is rising. You need to get to resection.

Re: How crucial is the HAI pump?

The HAI protocol is a combination of chemo directly injected into the pump which then goes straight to your liver and systemic chemotherapy delivered by traditional methods, usually a port in your chest. I don’t believe they’ll do colon surgery while you’re on HAI, they’d prefer to have any other tu...

Re: How crucial is the HAI pump?

The pump has been shown to be very effective at shrinking liver tumors and allow patients to get to resection and also to keep tumors from coming back after liver resection. I strongly suggest, if you haven’t already, to make an appointment at MSKCC, you need the best people taking care of you.

Re: CEA and it’s anxiety

CEA anxiety is one of our favorite subjects here, and it sucks! I’m one of those whose CEA level creeps up on occasion. But it seems that there very high false-positives with some of us, almost up to 50%, and in some people 15 is the high normal, not 5! Of course it’s still important to keep an eye ...
