Re: Best hospital

Hey there, you are young, in fairly good health and strong. My opinion is you need to hit this hard now when you can handle the treatments. There are a handful of excellent hospitals that treat advanced cancer around the country, but because of your liver involvement you should seriously look into M...

Erbitux plus Chemo trial - interesting results

It appears that adding cetuximab (erbitux) to chemotherapy in resectable kras wild type patients may not be a good mix.
Something to talk to your onc about if you're on this protocol.

Re: Interesting Appointment after CT/PET scan

Hi there, congratulations on your husband's progress. However, in my opinion he should not skip surgery. It's pretty rare that chemo alone offers a cure, tumors get smaller and sometimes disappear, but often recur. I would ask the doctor's for their advice. I would also be a bit concerned with the t...

Re: Newly Diagnosed

Nobody wants to do chemo. Lymphovascular involvement is a sign that some cancer cells might have move into the lymphatic system. I would not take any chances, do the chemotherapy. Folks here will help you along with any questions you might have. Hang in there.

Re: surgery successful, clear margins, 2 lymph nodes positiv

In my opinion chemo is very important to do in stage 3. I too was reluctant to do it after my colon surgery, as you can see by my signature, they found 2 nodes out of 17 positive. Two months later as I was about to start Folfox, a couple of spots were found on my liver - welcome to stage 4. They wer...

Re: Last Pump Fill

Hi Julie, I build it up slowly over the last three years. Remember that chemotherapy is particularly hard on the liver, and HAI more so as the drug is pumped directly to the organ. I can't suggest how much or what to drink, just try and not tax the liver with too much alcohol too quickly. Your onc s...

Re: Hospitals

In my opinion, when it comes to cancer, particularly advanced cancers, stage 2b +, you need to find the most experienced team of doctors and specialists. As we all know it's a complicated disease which can become terminal quickly in aggressive cases. I'm fortunate to live in NYC and be close to high...

Interesting, but there may be concrete reasons for more young diagnoses. http://www.oncologypractice.com/oncologyreport/single-view/colorectal-cancer-incidence-rising-sharply-among-younger-adults/a00ffbf510248b815e386d354d058b4b.html This article points out the obesity epidemic, physical inactivity,...

Re: Last Pump Fill

My last pump treatment was 3 years ago. I had a rare glass of wine during the treatment, my liver enzymes took about 6 months to normalize, they've been perfect since. Nowadays my alcohol consumption is pretty much what it had been prior to cancer. I've been taking Milk Thistle daily during that per...

Re: Increased markers and pet-ct shows fdg uptake in liver

Hi there, you really should look into HAI therapy, it's all about getting your liver tumor free, find out if it's possible in your area, if you're close to NYC, MSKCC is the place. Good luck!

Re: What is safe to take for a headache while on HAI/Fudr

Threads like this make me wonder if we should start a dedicated space for HAI treatment patients. At this point there seem to be enough of us here to share our experiences with this protocol. It's clear people are interested in finding out information. Anyone else agree?

Whatever you take don't take Tylenol, particularly with HAI treatment, it does a number on your liver.

Re: Great Article

Many studies over decades have shown the benefit of exercise for overall health and well being, just do a quick Google search. Using the folks here at Colon Club or anecdotal stories we've heard, as a representative group is absurd. There are hundreds of thousands of people with all kinds of cancers...
