Re: I am very worried. Help!

I am a 20 year old male. I've experienced blood in stools whenever I'm constipated. Today was different because I had this weird poop and I'm too shy to discuss this to my family. It was my first time having dark and fluid-ish poop. From what I've recalled, I only ate pasta and dumplings, and drank...

Making bowel movements easier after sigmoidectomy

Don't know if this has been done and I hope it can be a resource for someone in the future. What tips do you have for bowel movements or even passing gas right after surgery? For me I had a lot of trouble with everything waking up in a timely manner. Things are finally starting to go better. Not sur...

Re: I'm getting worried

Got an email notification today for new documents in my health care file with colon surgeon. Pulled it up and it was pathology reports. Everything came back negative and I'm definitely relieved. I've been asking the nurses all day what's holding up my discharge and if sounds like I needed to fart ag...

Not sure if they will cancel surgery or not. I stated feeling a little nauseous an hour after started antibiotics last night . Took metronidazole and neomycin sulfate. I threw up hour and a half after second dose of them and then again at 3am which was 4 hours after last dose. After I feel better an...

Re: I'm getting worried

Ok so I met other surgeon who will remove gallbladder. Basically said it's rare to have polyps and even more the size of mine and that we were taking it out to rule out malignancy / stop it early/ prevent it. Primary also put in consult for me with nuerologist because I have been seeing some horizon...

Re: I'm getting worried

It could be longer then 2 to 3 days if I have ilieus? Basically if my bowels are slow to start. I found out my VA primary had sent request for consult with 2nd surgeon so it looks like I'm on the right path and to let him know if I don't here from the community Care team in a week who make final de...

Re: I'm getting worried

Talked to colorectal surgeon today. He said he will use da Vinci surgery and that gallbladder could be removed at same time and put in a referral for another surgeon to handle that using da Vinci as well. Said probably 2 or 3 days in hospital and most likely around 3 weeks out of work.

Re: I'm getting worried

VA just called me to make sure I got my ultrasound results, they are separate from Gastroenterologist. They agree with the surgery as well. They gave me more specifics saying there are 5 polyps with largest 1.2cm . So I talked to them about increased cancer risk and they said I knew my stuff. Wish I...

Re: I'm getting worried

I can't speak to gallbladder removal; I had 10 inches of colon including the sigmoid removed a year and a half ago in laparoscopic surgery. Perhaps my experience will be helpful, though. I was up and walking around about 24 hours after surgery, which was much later than we all would have liked. The...

Re: I'm getting worried

Just wanted to update a bit. So pathology came back good. Both polyps hyperplastic and one was inflammatory and was in a diverticular pouch that they removed as well. That's the good news. Health wise the bad news is I was hospitalized for a couple days recently for diverticulitis which is 5th time ...
