Day 6 Post Takedown

I had my takedown surgery last Friday. This is truly an ordeal, but I think my experience is normal. I am very grateful to other members who posted on their ilio reversals. Thank you, thank you. Time and again I have come to this board feeling hopeless and demoralized, and found out that others have...

Re: Folfox and hair loss -does it usually happen or not?

The responses so far suggest everyone responds differently to FOLFOX. I had 12 rounds with some thinning on the scalp. Not too bad. Oddly, I lost the hair on my ankles,

Re: Suffer train has again began to roll

I'm sorry your received this horrible news, especially after what seemed like an encouraging CT report. The ups and downs of this illness are almost as bad as the disease itself. Again and again we get knocked down, and have to try and rebuild... I hope your docs can map out a new path forward for y...

Re: Average Rounds of Treatment

I was 12 and out - status NED. Never discussed more than 12. If it comes back, then I'll get more chemo.

If the status is not NED, it might be a different story...

Its only been 2 mos since I stopped Oxy, but I still have tingling fingers. Annoying, not painful.

Re: Stop Oxaliplatin at Round Eight or Round Nine?

I was on FOLFOX and Avastin but they reduced the OXY after round 6 and dropped it after 8. My fingers and feet were tingling, and my onc said it wasn't worth the risk of permanent neuropathy. I don't think it would be unusual if you didn't get the full regimen of OXY. Two mos after my last dose of O...

Sunny, I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. The hardest part for me was that early period when you know something's wrong but the facts aren't all lined up yet. Its a horrible state of anxious waiting. When all the tests are complete and all the docs have given you options, things get a lot ...

Re: Newbie with tons of questions

Sorry you are in this situation. Have you found a radiation doc and an oncologist yet? The treatment plan should be a team decision. Radiation and/or chemo can shrink a rectal tumor and change the picture from a surgery standpoint. There are also some surgeons who specialize in sphincter-sparing sur...

Re: 2014 member update -- for all of us--please post!

I finished chemo last week, and am feeling OK with some mild hand/foot problems. My reversal is scheduled at Hopkins for late Jan, and my first post-chemo scan will also be in Jan. So a couple of big hurdles in Jan, but I am hopeful. My chemo staff were amazing. That made the chemo much less horribl...

Re: Folfox and folfiri limited success.

Ceriximab is for liver tumors. There are other ways to treat liver tumors to make them resectable. Ask your onc about other treatments. And I agree, a second opinion (I didn't stop with two opinions, I got several). They may only validate what your current onc is saying, but thats fine. It sounds li...

Re: I cancelled my surgery today...

Mel, YOU are the patient and YOU are the one carrying around the stress of your medical condition. Doctors are just practicing their trade, its not a personal thing with them. I am sure everyone at the hospital understands your hesitancy. The first doc might have been just fine, but he/she failed to...
