Re: New on the forum

A little update, I am fine but the nerves around the urine bladder have been damaged during the operation and I am now learning how to self catheterize me so that I can go home. I cannot even feel that the bladder is full. Hopefully is not a permanent damage, although the doctor managed to say that ...

Are you able to eat whatever you want and tolerate it?

All the best to you,

Shana

Thanks! They told me to be careful with raw vegetables and fruit and to chew very well, but I can eat everything.

Re: Rectal Cancer - Standard of Care Approach or Neoadjuvant Chemo approach???

It is very difficult to give advice, because you really want to avoid the bag and then I would suggest to go for the second option. I just had surgery after chemioradiation and have had a colostomy already for 8 weeks, now they made an ileostomy which I will keep for at least other 8 weeks. But I se...

Re: New on the forum

Today I started walking a bit, the epidural is making my right leg sleepy, but they are diminishing the dose and changing into pills. I ate normally today and drank a lot, have been almost painfree all day :D It is very cool to be «on the other side», even if there are more walls to climb, each wall...

Re: New on the forum

Hi! Everything went fine and I am now sitting and eating, the surgeon told me that they removed all the tumor and now I have an ileostomy on the left side, where the colostomy was.

Thanks a lot for your support!

Re: New on the forum

Thanks a lot for your wishes! :D I am now drinking the second glass of prep, much easier with colostomy, and I guess emptying it so often is sort of a training in case I will get an ileo. I can confirm that here they do not usually give chemo after surgery, but of course it will depend on the...

Re: New on the forum

Hi again! Today I had the meeting with surgeon, stomy nurse, anestesy nurse and so on and I got the results for the cat scan and mr. Both show good response to chemoradiation but they did not give me much details. I was scheduled for surgery on Monday, but suddenly they called me and surgery is plan...

Re: Good news...and I'm at my lowest

I also can relate to that, until now I have been positive and trying to live day by day, enjoying all I have (and it is a lot), but it is just a matter of time and it will be too much to handle. Not to talk about what is waiting, more surgery to remove the tumor, ileostomy (or permanent colostomy), ...

My surgery is scheduled for the 29th, but I have the cat scan and MR scheduled on Monday.

Do I still go forward with surgery and 4 months of chemo?

That was really good news! What are your surgeon and oncolog suggesting?
