Re: Afraid to have reached the end...

Dear BandCdaughter - I'm so sorry that you, your husband and father-in-law are at this place right now. I'm sure there are other family members and friends who are also in distress about this news. From your post, it's clear to me that you've been a very devoted and involved caregiver. Your father-i...

Re: Time for hospice

May your days be filled with love. May the soft and gentle touch of caring people help to comfort to the wounds of your heart. May your tears be laced with gratitude for having found each other. My thoughts are with you both.

Re: Why I stopped posting

I was just thinking about Skifletch. I miss his informative and encouraging posts, and would love to read an update from him again. On the other hand, I celebrate the fact that he has "moved on" with his life, and have total respect for his decision to "turn his face to the sun."...

Re: When the caregiver's heart breaks....

Dear Friends - Thank you all for your kind words, empathy and profound thoughts. Kenny, thank you for your bouquet of roses, which were absolutely the "right thing" to send. Thank you also for sending the Buddhist teachings about suffering. Mack and I are "followers of Jesus Christ&qu...

When the caregiver's heart breaks....

On May 22, just as our plane was taking off, DH received the telephone call from NCI telling him he was not a candidate for the TIL trial. Tears trickled down our cheeks as the plane took off, but I pulled myself together, and DH fell asleep. 3 hours after arriving home, while cooking dinner, extrem...

Palliative Care is the new plan

It's been a wild week. The trip to NIH to investigate the TIL (Rosenberg) Trial was an amazing experience. Alas, DH was not accepted as a candidate for the trial as the tumor that the medical team wanted to "harvest" was too close to, and probably has already invaded, the kidney. So, today...

Re: doctor's appt general update

Voxx- I'm so sorry, but I understand your decision to stop treatment for now. My DH is in the same boat....onc. doesn't recommend more chemo b/c Mack's QOL is really good right now. He's been off chemo for 2 months, and we've made some great memories during that time. Hard to think about more chemo ...

Re: I'm thinking of a lilacbreastedroller

Well, we made it! A LONG, very full day of testing and interviews at NCI. What an amazing facility and medical staff. The feedback so far seems to indicate that DH will be accepted as a candidate in the trial, but we won't know for sure until we get the "official" telephone call / invitati...

Re: Got the call yesterday...off to NIH tomorrow!

Thank you all for your encouraging words. To Cindie - I feel your pain! We were also feeling very discouraged and a little frustrated as communication with the research nurse just seemed to stop a few weeks ago. Then, yesterday, a different nurse (Marie) called with the news that we were invited up ...

Got the call yesterday...off to NIH tomorrow! Update - Not accepted

The fine folk at NIH (or NCI) in Bethesda called yesterday, and asked if DH could be in Bethesda, Md. for a full day of evaluation and consultation on Thursday. We were in Florida at the time, helping my mother who is in the hospital with pneumonia. She was in the middle of a move to an assisted liv...
