I am so sorry. The crabiness with pain. I hope your kiddos have good memories to offset some of the bad near the end.

I am so sorry. This cancer is so brutal and unrelenting sometimes. I will pray for your husband and also pray for your strength as you navigate this.

Re: CEA and bloodwork

My husbands CEA was less than .5 when he was diagnosed, and his liver was riddled with mets. The highest it ever was was 10.5 and that was when there were no active tumors and he was on chemo, but nearing the end of a 6 month cycle.

Re: another HAI pump question and a short rant...

Another one here that has a husband who would not be here without Dr. K! He just hit his 5yr cancerversary. We are still battling things, but he is here to battle them and he's living life. As for DH, he has dozens of tumors as well. Every lobe was affected. He had HAI chemo for 6 months and then su...

Re: How to go about getting 2nd opinion or advice

All of what Julie Said! My DH was told by a liver surgeon at MD Anderson that he wasn't nor would he ever be a candidate for surgery (well, he said there was a 5% chance chemo could work, but he damn near rolled his eyes when he said so). That was almost 5 yrs ago! He got the liver surgery, has had ...

Re: Girlfriend wants to come to appointments

You do what you feel is best. If you are concerned about the need to put on a brave face, then tell her that. Whatever you do, be honest. I like to go to any big appointments my husband has because I always have questions. He rarely asks any and I tend to come up with a lot. I had originally gone to...

Re: Dad diagnosed last week, stage iv with innumerable mets

I am sorry you are here, but welcome you! My husband also had innumerable mets to his colon (but no ascites). After getting a bad review of possible surgery from a surgeon at MD Anderson we sought out Dr. Nancy Kemeny at Memorial Sloan Kettering. MSK is in NYC, which I know with all that is going on...

Re: Dr. K patients-what’s the plan?

I am so grateful for this thread, Kathleen! Greetings for Joe! My scans got rescheduled from April to June 21/22. I had last scans in November... So weird... Additionally, my husband got furloughed and only God knows, how long we will keep the insurance, and when he gets another job with decent ben...

Re: Please help, input needed

Ugh, how do people do this? This is day 6 after my second infusion and I'm still puking and nauseated. I have to work if I don't want to be homeless and it's just so hard. I emailed the doctor to see if we can switch up the meds somehow so mornings aren't so horrible. So my husband handled the firs...

Re: Dr. K patients-what’s the plan?

Last week they called to ask me to book my scans locally and then have a telemedicine conference with Dr K. I’m in active chemo treatment right now, and I wish I felt better about the coordination between MSK and my local center, Northwestern. I think things will be ok, but I will feel a lot better...

Dr. K patients-what’s the plan?

Just curious what all of you Dr. K patients are hearing about your appointments and scans. We just heard they may not be in clinic by mid June which is DH’s rescheduled appt time. He last saw her March 3rd. He’s almost 3 months post lung resection and adrenal ablation. He got orders to get local sca...

Re: MSK friendly lodging in NYC

Oh, and there is also the Hope Lodge. That is free but can be hard to get into. If your friend is having trouble affording accommodation, please encourage them to reach out to an MSKCC social worker. I have heard from people in the waiting room how wonderful they are at helping with lodging, sometim...

Re: MSK friendly lodging in NYC

It really depends on what time of year you go. The courtyard on 3rd and 53rd is fairly reasonable most the year. Sometimes in the summer it is stupid expensive. The Residence Inn on 48th and Lex is usually a good deal. There is a kitchenette with fullsize fridge and they serve a hot breakfast. Again...
