Re: Colon cancer: my treatment and side effects

My understanding has been that the constipation is from the anti-nausea meds given as pre-meds. It happened to me the first cycle, but not since then. I have virtually constant diarrhea/loose stools instead. :) That may be partially because of Metformin. Having had a right hemicolectomy does mean th...

Re: The things people say to cancer patients

I have to confess that I like it when people tell me I look great. It makes me feel good about myself. Which is something I need more of.

Re: STAGE 3 rectal cancer treatment without surgery

I wonder how much of the problem is caused by radiation, rather than the surgery? I know my husband has had ongoing urinary tract problems clearly caused by the radiation to the prostate bed a couple of years after surgery, rather than the surgery itself. (Not that I would advocate his forgoing it.)...

Re: Scared of Symptoms

Could the groin pain be a lymph node? I don't have any insight into the French medical system, but if you are having trouble communicating, can you either take a friend who is fluent and can translate for you, or write down a detailed description of your symptoms and get someone to translate it into...

Re: Fecal blood test Positive

All I can tell you is that I got the 10-yr all clear in 2010 and 8 years later was diagnosed with Stage IV. I asked my oncologist if it would have been caught if I had moved to a 5-yr schedule when my sister had CRC in 2013. He said maybe, maybe not. He doesn't think that my tumor sprang from the ki...

Re: The things people say to cancer patients

Part of my experience so far is probably due to the fact that, other than the initial diagnosis, I've had only comparatively good news to report when asked.

I can see that it would be a different kettle of fish if/when that is not the case.

Re: MRI shows 6 new liver Mets 2 weeks after clean CT scan? CEA normal.

A liver MRI shows a lot more than a CAT scan. It's kind of the gold standard of liver scanning. I had a very small sub-capsular liver met that my surgeon found and removed that did not shoe up on my initial CAT scan. I've seen the scan, and my liver looks completely clear. My new scan, 3 months into...

Re: The things people say to cancer patients

I must say that I have been very lucky with the response of my family and friends. NONE of them have made that kind of remark to me. The only "my X had cancer" stories I was offered were right after surgery when the news broke, and they were few but very positive, have hope kinds of things...

Re: Genetic Testing?

MMR proficient means that staining found all of the proteins normally produced by the 4 genes that are involved with mis-match repair. If one or more of them was not present, your tumor would have been dMMR, ie deficient. dMMR is associated with micro-satellite instabililty (MSI). This is because th...

Re: Diet, Exercie, and Recurrence/Prevention

As a person with T2 diabetes who normally follows a low carb diet--which BTW has to contain a low consumption of fruit limited largely to specific low-glycemic options, few grains of any type, and almost no root vegetables--I would love to know whether they have determined that the real issue is blo...

Re: Dang 1cm Liver Met!

I have no informed opinion on the pump option, but I *do* know that the stage 4 stats out there are totally out of date, and were derived with a patient population that did not have access to many of the treatments available today. This was clearly stated by ALL of my doctors, including the expert a...

Re: Colon cancer: my treatment and side effects

Thinning=falling out at a higher rate than usual and not being replaced by normal growth. Maybe as a guy with presumably shorter hair you don't notice the falling out as much, but I have shoulder-length hair and when I wash it--especially after the on-the-pump 2-day hiatus from bathing--a LOT more c...

Re: Feeling confused . What symptoms to watch for

I suggest that you try joining Colontown on facebook. Lots of outgoing people and support there, and they also have local groups that meet IRL. It is a private, hidden group, so no one outside of it will see anything you post, or even that you posted. Within colontown there are "neighborhoods&q...
