Yes, it is common to develop an allergic reaction to oxaliplatin. The same thing happened to me at my 7th or 8th cycle, except they didn't send me to the ER. They put me on benadryl and monitored me closely until it cleared up. I switched to FOLFIRI for the remaining cycles.

I was treated there in 2011-12 with surgery and radiation, and they consulted with my local oncologist for my chemo regimen. I had an extremely positive experience there and highly recommend them. My results speak for themselves.

Sadly, I believe many oncologists just go through the motions when the tumors are inoperable and don't pursue aggressive treatment like I think they should in some cases. Fortunately I was operable and didn't need the pump, but if I were in your situation, I would DEFINITELY pursue one.
