Re: Thoughts on Stage IV...

I go in 13 days for my CEA and if that's still nice and 'low norm', I'll be discharged from my onc's care and will have been cancer free for 7 1/2 years and just under 11 years since original Stage III dx.

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Main Findings In this older population-based Rancho Bernardo study cohort, small but incremental increases in bilirubin occurred with increasing age. This association between age and bilirubin was observed in the cross-sectional analyses of the baseline cohort and over time in longitudinal analyses...

Peggy Lipton, 'The Mod Squad' colon cancer 2004 RIP 5/2019

The article says she was dx'd and treated for colon cancer 15 years ago and she died of cancer yesterday. Her tumor was found during a routine colonoscopy. News reports only discuss her Stage III dx, surgery and 22 treatments of chemo in 2004. One daughter says she died of colon cancer.

Re: Finally reached the 'forgot I had cancer' spot!

You are cured but I definitely recommend getting CEA tests at least annually as it never hurts be cautious. I'll have my final CEA with my onc this October and then I've asked my primary to continue once a year until I've passed 10 years since my liver resection. It's already been 10 years 4 months...

Finally reached the 'forgot I had cancer' spot!

I thought I'd never forget about Stage IV cancer but I go weeks and when it does come to mind I think it must have been a dream. April 11th was 7 years since my liver resection and the rib pain is pretty much gone. I had to look up the date! My TSH for my thyroid is finally stable and my energy is b...

Re: Female Pains AFTER radiation, No Doc will Listen...

I'm not going to read 5 pages of replies so someone might have mentioned this. A church friend who is much younger than me has IC. I think it's interstitial cystitis. She has to cath herself three times a day and spray the inside of her bladder with a pain killer. A surgeon has offered to cut the ne...

Re: First Time Here - Anxiety is High

It certainly is a good idea to go ahead and be checked, but I wanted to assure you that most shapes, sizes, flat, round, colors other than white as snow or black as fresh road tar are all fine. Even the best doctor may still believe 'pencil stool' means cancer. Nope. Now NO pooh and not able to pass...

Re: Is colon cancer curable completely?

I was discharged and pronounced cured this October. I started off Stage III and three years later had a tiny liver met. It’s been 10 years since my original diagnosis and just under 7 since my liver resection. Studies have shown that patients who remain cancer free at 6.48 years after surgery for a ...

Re: How young is too young for COLONOSCOPY

Not long after my original surgery I was at a middle school ball game and was talking with the lady coach. She told me one of her 7th graders had Stage IV colon cancer and they'd removed her whole colon but the parents were demanding it not be discussed, especially with the child because they didn't...

Re: Yoga to Poop

I was born constipated and it worsened after my colon resection. About a year ago my doctor told me a study had been done on using Miralax daily and it caused no problems (other that gas / bloating but you adjust dose) except in people in kidney failure even after the 7 year study. He gives his daug...

Re: Stage 4 to NED- Please tell us

I had no Chemo after my liver resection and today was offered 2 choices. One was a big hug and discharge or a big hug and one more CEA in Oct. 2019. I opted for the final CEA in a year. There are many studies that show cure is possible after surgery for certain size, location etc. mets. I’m living p...

STAGE IV NED 6 1/2 years and 10 years out from dx

MRI: No evidence for recurrent or metastatic disease. CAT SCAN: Lung nodules are all stable going back many years. No new or enlarging nodules. (He actually says later benign since first scan in Jan. 2009). I can't begin to tell you how much this specific 'date' means to me! A study done in 2015 cit...

Re: Stage 4 to NED- Please tell us

I was Stage III from Jan. 2009 to Feb. 2012 when a liver met was found. It was 1.5 cm but smack dab middle of the back of the liver so the surgeon took 80% of the large side of the liver in April 2012 with no follow up chemo. As of 5 a.m. this morning when my Chest CT and Abdominal / pelvic scans we...
