Re: need advice-Surgery? stage iv? mixed birthday news

the pelvic lymph node is the internal iliac node, which is the furthest node considered 'regional' for rectal cancer. Thanks for everyone's comments on whether it's stage iv or not, but I really am more concerned with whether I should get a second surgical opinion. It seems to me that removing the n...

need advice-Surgery? 2nd opinion? mixed birthday news

So (after a very nice weekend in NYC) I got my PET scan results this morning. It was a good news/bad news thing: my pelvic lymph node's SUV has increased from 4.17 in June to 7.13. I've just come off 8 rounds of xeliri with Avastin. In March before I started treatment the SUV was 8.49. More importan...

Re: Super Scanxiety

ok, now I'm grumpy. After calling all afternoon and being told my report was 'dictating but not signed off on' I now get an answering machine. And the last person TOLD me to call back when I did--hah! well, I'm going to try to live up to my screen name and ignore my scan, and have a nice weekend. I ...

Re: Avastin - General Thoughts / Experiences ?

AFAIK, Avasstin has had no side effects for me. I"m on Xeliri + Avastin, and I'm gettng some diarrhea and hair loss from the Irinotecan and some hand/foot from the Xeloda. My understanding is that typically Avastin doesn't have many 'minor' side effects (nosebleeds) except that it usually raise...

Re: Super Scanxiety

wow, joeyooser--I can't imagine how loud and pounding that was! I hate MRIs--it takes 3 valium. PETs aren't much better but are at least quieter--only 2 ativan! and CTs are only 1 tranquilizer...
Anyway, I hope you have great results

Super Scanxiety

ok, so I finished 8 rounds of chemo (Xeliri & Avastin) Monday and had my PET scan yesterday. The scan center is great--if you sign a release they will fax you your results if you call for them. I just called (after downing some Ativan!) but the results aren't ready yet. My oncologist was optimis...

Re: Cycling Xeloda, Camptosar, and Avastin

I'm on a 3-week cycle. Weeks 1 and 2 I'm on Xeloda. Day 1 and 8 I get Irinotecan infusion. Day 1 I get Avasatin (so once every 3 weeks). My onc. said every oncologist seems to have their own protocol at the moment and nothing is set in stone.

Re: Question from a concerned guy

Yes, I had a colonoscopy and they biopsied the mass. Yours sounds different, I think (hope) a colonoscopy will remove your amxiety.

Re: Question from a concerned guy

I hate to tell you this, but my very low tumor did prolapse (come out) with bowel movements before I was diagnosed. I had mentioned it to a few drs and they all said 'hemorrhoids". needless to say, they were wrong...

Re: Re-radiation

I had a recurrence in my internal iliac node. I had already had a full radiation treatment earlier. One rad. oncologist said no more, but another did hyperfractionated radiation for 6 weeks (with Xeloda). It didn't do much to the lymph node but I developed neuropathy in my left leg and foot. Probabl...
