Re: APR surgery scheduled. Need your advice

Hi Dave! I have had the surgery you are planning for and wanted to answer some of your questions. As best as you can, plan on how the ostomy will be affected by the waistline of your clothing. You do have to consider that in general there is a limited amount of space so to speak for where they can p...

Re: Poor bowel habits/long term colostomy

https://www.identifyepi.com/ I heard about this (Click on link above) on the radio recently and was looking it up because of some issues my dad has been having. And then when I read your post followed by CRGuy’s comment I thought this may be a place for you to at least check out and bring up to a d...

Re: HELP! Post surgery pain

Hi Marie— I hope your husband is feeling better, figuring out what the issue is. I can share a few experiences from my own situation—I had the same surgery a little over four years ago. I don’t know how long his pain lasted or it’s specifics, but I absolutely recall the jarring, completely out of no...

Re: Twelve year old Niece has surgery tomorrow

Life really can be so unfair and just plain sucky sometimes! I will have your niece in my thoughts as she recovers from this surgery. I am someone with a permanent colostomy so I just wanted to chime in to say have them check out the UOAA website for people of all ages and reasons for having an osto...

Re: APR surgery coming scared and questions

Hi Paul— I had your same surgery just over four years ago so I can share with you my experience. I went in for the surgery on a Thursday morning and I was in the hospital until the following Tuesday so a total of five nights. I was up and walking for sure by Friday (the day after)—I don’t believe I ...

Re: Barbie Butt question?

Hey Paul— I am in the Barbie Butt club. LOL In general, your healing will be different because you are only a few months out from the initial surgery and I am guessing you have also had some chemo treatments as well, right? I had my permanent colostomy surgery about seven weeks after completing radi...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

Even better, buy a pill box that does a.m. and p.m. for the week. They are only a few bucks at pharmacy and for sure helps to see if you have taken it at both times during the day. I would then sit down on Sunday night and count out the pills for the following week.

Where to begin?!? All of these pics are awesome—thanks everyone for sharing! This is my favorite thread because it gives you such a neat glimpse in to our non-CRC lives. Seriously Peanut—those pups are beyond adorable—how can you not want them all?!? I am looking forward to sibling pics of Fonzie wi...

Re: Had my surgery...

Hi Cmarie—glad to hear your surgery came with clear margins—words you definitely want to hear! I am responding as someone who also had to have a permanent colostomy, although I was told in advance of the surgery I would need one as the tumor was butting up against my anal sphincters so it all had to...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

Hi MeAndMine—welcome to a club of the most wonderful people for the most awful reason. I am four years out from my rectal cancer diagnosis and popped on and saw your message and thought of how I was in a similar situation exactly four years right this week. Everything you have from the dr who did yo...

Hi TinaFish! Welcome to ColonTalk. :D I have a permanent colostomy (since December 2015) so I will answer your questions as best as I can from my own personal experience and I am certain that others with ostomies will as well, give them a little time. #1: There are items called “wraps” that you can ...

Yay! Loved seeing the picture posts from everyone on here—thanks, MOB for starting a new one. https://i.imgur.com/kWk4Ynr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/78lOdXq.jpg These are from a local orchard—we love our cherries and nothing as tasty as fresh picked cherries right off the tree, yum! Re: Chemo & Radiation BEFORE 1st Surgery - What to Expect?

Silverwedding—good to hear you met Dr. Denstman and liked him and most importantly have a plan. Having a plan makes a huge mental difference for sure. You don’t have a signature so what stage is your husband’s cancer? And it sounds like rectal not colon because he is doing the chemo radiation, which...

Re: Please help - Diagnosed yesterday and confused

Oh good, your husband will be seeing Dr. Denstman. He has been in the business for a while as you saw and has performed quite a few surgeries so it does give you peace of mind. I told him he can’t retire for a long long time! I have a permanent colostomy and he did a great job with it. As for ...
