Re: Colon Resection

@Valorie
@shade

The tumor is in the rectosigmoid area, 4cm in size. We are now waiting for the results of the CT scan done today (8-28).
So, by choosing a (inexperienced) general surgeon instead of a specialized colorectal surgeon, we are taking a big chance?

Colon Resection

Is there anyone who had a colon resection done by a general surgeon instead of a specialized colorectal surgeon and ended up with terrible results?

Re: Newly diagnosed:(

I say definitely start chemo right away. You don't want to give the cancer cells still loose in you blood streams a chance to gain more footholds, which would require more surgery.

Re: Help! Mom Diagnosed With Colon Cancer!

I looked through the paperwork for my mom's CT scan scheduled for tomorrow (8/28) and found that it will only include the pelvis and abdomen. But the recommendation from the GI says that the CT scan should include the chest too. Should we alert this to the surgeon ? Also, so far, only a GI, GP, and ...

Anyone out there whose oncologist uses the My5-FU Test and/or test patients for DPD deficiency?

Proportion of Stages

Of all diagnosed cases of colon cancer, how many stage 1, 2, 3, & 4? Any members have links to such statistics?

@weisssoccermom So, a stage 4 tumor could still contain well-differentiated cells?

Help! Mom Diagnosed With Colon Cancer!

My 59 years old mother has just been diagnosed with colon cancer. She will take a blood test and CT scan in a few days, and surgery will follow. On the pathology, it reads "moderately differentiated invasive distal sigmoid adenocarcinoma", with no mention of staging (even temporary). What ...
