Re: WARNING about Red Yeast Rice products

Well, I'm pretty sure that the FDA doesn't much care what "our opinions" are about whether or not prescription drugs or controlled substances should be listed on labels or not. Like it or not, agree with it or not, it is the law and it's not subject to our opinions (or those of anyone at t...

Re: WARNING about Red Yeast Rice products

I must disagree here - first (and once again), this is not "my" warning - it's from the FDA, and second, the warning is not about whether a particular drug is safe or not. This warning was issued about a company who thinks it's okay to not list a prescription drug on its over-the-counter p...

Re: HIPEC -- need everyone's input on the best centers....

I would try Indiana University Hospital, University of Cincinnati (Dr. Lowy) or Wake Forest. Not the most "famous" cancer centers, but well-known for HIPEC (aka IPEC).

Re: just a question..

Hi Diana, I hope your mom's trip went well and she is there with you now! Just quickly to answer your question about iron - they were probably surprised that her iron is high because many (probably most) people who have colorectal cancer are anemic, meaning they have low iron levels. The reason this...

IBD study for college students

Because of the link between Irritible Bowel Disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and colorectal cancer, we try to keep an eye on related things. The following was sent to me by a friend in the IBD world. If you know of a college student with IBD (Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), p...

I think I can help but need to make a few clarifications - HIPEC and IPEC are pretty much used interchangeably to mean that you get opened up and hot chemo is poured in your abdomen and washed around. That said, I'm not sure what they are talking about doing at Sloan - are they actually talking abou...

I'm not making any statements - I don't know enough about the product to say much of anything, just reporting what the FDA has to say. I would be careful, as stated by the FDA. Products that contain unlisted drugs are dangerous because people don't know what they are taking, not necessarily because ...

All of you are right about the numbers, and the stats start from your initial diagnosis and beginning of treatment (treatment includes surgery). Remember though that these are statistics - so much depends on your personal and family history, outcome of genetic testing, etc. The important thing is ju...

We completely agree! We are working on trying to get something organized where we might have sections for general information, information for newly diagnosed, a place to share personal stories, etc. \ It may not be really speedy, but I promise we are thinking about it. PLEASE feel free to post comm...

Just to be clear, it is not always the case that theraspheres can or will only be done in cases where the only mets are in the liver. In the past (and by that I mean even a year ago) that would probably be 100% true. But some doctors (few, but I think it's growing) are really starting to approach me...

Okay, I posted too fast! I just read down the forum and saw your post from today about being done with chemo! So what else did you take other than FOLFOX? Did you have any Procrit or Neulasta shots or anything at all other than your chemo?
