Re: Recent diagnosis

Having chemo/radiation before surgery also gives the possibility of a pathological complete response after surgery. In some cases the tumour is completely gone after treatment. It will give a better prognosis going forward. Some studies I have read have percentages as high as 25 - 30% of patients ac...

Re: Brand new, and lost

Hmmm just curious as to why your surgeon never did a scan on your lungs in the first place. A chest, abdomen and pelvic scan is standard in rectal cancer. You are already going to get enough radiation you sure don't want any extra scans thrown in also. Good thing your onc is on top of it.

CEA up again

Thanx everyone for your replies. In my research I have read that CEA can be elevated with liver disease. I was dx last year after my cancer with hereditary hemochromatosis ( too much iron storage with high ferritin levels) which is a very common liver disease. It is treated with regular phlebotomies....

CEA up again

Well folks just got my results from this weeks CEA and it is up again to 2.9. My ONC has bumped up my next scan before the end of this month it was due in May. She says she is not worried since my lab normal is 0-4 and I am still in the normal range. As you can see by my signature I have had a stead...

Re: Sigmoid 2A cancer-on Xeloda

I looked at the BC follow up and it says that stage II and III are only scanned if other test warrant it. I guess if your CEA elevates to high they can issue a scan. I was surprised at what I read because in Ontario the follow up is a CT scan yearly for five years after resection. That is what they ...

Re: update on colon cancer worries.

So don't go to the doctor and be an idiot. There are hundreds of people here that wished they had the opportunity you have. To be checked early before it is stage IV. When and IF it is stage IV then remember these post. You think you don't like doctors now.....

Re: update on colon cancer worries.

Wake up Drew. Have you not been reading this forum? I sent you a link on your last post earlier. COLON CANCER is not your grandparents disease anymore. People your age are getting diagnosed a lot more often. It is probably nothing but won't you feel better knowing for sure?

Re: update on colon cancer worries.

Not to alarm you but the blood does not have to be within the stool. I had the fecal blood test that detects blood within the actual stool and I was negative/normal. I like you had blood outside the actual stool and that is why I am on this forum. You need a scope.

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Congrats on your 'complete clinical response" Our stories are a bit similar with regards a complete response. In my case and knowing that I would be just waiting for the next shoe to drop, (a recurrence) I if given the choice ( I was not ) would of elected to do the surgery. The surgery was tou...

Re: BAD NEUROPATHY IN FEET

I too have struggled with neuropathy and although I have never experienced pain which I am grateful for, I have struggled with the clumsy numbness. I have never taken any meds since all my reading has led me to believe that the side effects can be worse than the neuropathy itself. I read also that e...
