Re: RFA x2..not so good

Update...Not sure what is causing this. They dont think it's pneumonia, cultures negative. Might be inflammation from the procedure coupled with the fact that he had a lot of pain and couldnt take a deep breath. Then someone brought up that irinotecan can cause restrictive lung disease. So I do a li...

RFA x2..not so good

My DH had microwave ablation of 2 lesions of his R lung 3 weeks ago. Yesterday he had one lesion (last one.....) on L done. For both procedures he had to stay overnight (how come everyone else gets to go home but us???). This time did not go so well - he had signficant pain, oxygen sats dropped into...

Re: Avastin headaches - is there any help?

Might want to make sure your blood pressure is normal. My DH started getting horrible headaches and it turns out his bp was 158/110...Headaches went away the day we started blood pressure medicine. Avastin can cause high blood pressure. He has not taken Avastin since July and he still needs two bloo...

Re: Inoperable Stage IVs

Hi Just to clarify - my husband did not have a liver transplant. The surgeon is a transplant surgeon/oncologic surgeon who is not afraid to be aggressive with treatment for the right patient.

Re: Almost 5 years Later

Keep the good news coming. So glad you are doing well. I looked at survival rates once the first week after my husband was diagnosed. I have never told him and he won't look. Good w me. Freaks me out. You are the only one you know with YOUR colon cancer.

Re: Inoperable Stage IVs

Dh was initially told inoperable. Then I got another opinion at UPMC and a badass liver surgeon (who does transplants too) named David Geller agreed to operate on him. Now he remains cancer free in his abdomen. (And one more met left in his lung, 18 down, 1 to go!)

Re: Newly diagnosed & problems with insurance

I am from Phila and I took my husband to UPMC because he had liver mets and Penn would not operate on him. We had a GREAT colorectal surgeon named David Medich - liver surgeon was David Geller. He had his surgery at UPMC Passavent. BTW - you must be from central PA...I used to live in Williamsport a...

Re: Immunotherapy Clinical Trials

There is a REALLY great website with a navigator that will help you - http://www.cancerresearch.org/cancer-immunotherapy/impacting-all-cancers/colorectal-cancer I used it when I was looking for a clinical trial for my husband. They get the info you have, location radius and then will email you all t...

What to expect - RFA lung on Tues

My DH is getting RFA to two mets in his L lung on Tues. One requires them to go through the liver and diaphragm because its at the base of his lung. The other will require a posterior approach. What should he expect with pain, getting back to normal activities etc?

Re: MSK Impact testing

DH and I just went to Sloane two weeks ago. It is a study, no cost to you. Do it. (They told us he was not sick enough for a clinical trial at MSK - but they had this available for him).

Re: Clinical Trials at MSK - advice?

Hi all, Another update - all 3 lesions are candidates for RFA. He has two in the R planned for Oct 20 and then one on the left in Nov. Then he is NED. Not sure what the plan will be after that. I suspect chemo. And they are going THROUGH the liver and diaphragm - a hole in the diaphragm...seems odd ...

Re: Clinical Trials at MSK - advice?

Interesting meeting. Right now, they think my husband does not have enough cancer to treat and we should come back in 3 months or if he gets more cancer. Yup. Figure that. He has 3 2-3mm lung mets. He feels great. They really want a biopsy of the tumor for genetic testing, but the mets are too small...

Re: Losing life insurance when going on disability?

Thank you all - I think we need to do more work. He is going on STD, with the expectation he will not return in 12 weeks and end up on LTD. He is not leaving the company, nor retiring. I think we need to get copies of his policies as many of you have stated and then talk with the insurance company. ...
