Re: Quick question about colonoscopy

As someone who has gone through the last 2 colonoscopies awake, I can say chances are real good the doc will catch any abnormalities. While awake, I was watching the same monitor my doctor was watching. He talked through various things he saw. The first colonoscopy I did awake resulted in finding th...

Re: 56 went for a colonoscopy they found 5 cm tumor

To add to Beckster's reply: CEA is a protein which is expressed normally. The liver is responsible for metabolizing it out of your blood stream. CEA is produced by certain solid tumor cancers. A refinement of why this is checked is what my oncologist told me recently. Typically when someone presents...

Re: Awaiting Pathology

I'm sorry to hear from you both about this. I'm also an appendicial cancer survivor along with colon cancer. As much as we're being told this is a rare cancer, I find it interesting I'm hearing from more and more people about this disease. I got lucky as mine was caught really really early. It was a...

My year long saga with high CEA.

I posted the below verbiage on another support forum. Felt it was just easier to copy and paste here. Quick summary of what has transpired this year with my CEA levels. March 20th, CEA spiked from 5.2 in December to 15.6 during a routine 3 month checkup. Retest done March 22, CEA is 16.7. A series o...

This is good news.

I'll be creating a separate topic about high CEA and my year long challenge.

Re: No confirming diagnosis

Assuming the biopsies were correct, this could be a CUPs (carcinoma of unknown primary) situation. There was one member here who was dealing with CUPs. CUPs is a rare circumstance but can happen.

Re: Inconclusive Biopsy

As others have stated, biopsies are not 100%. I had biopsy samples taken from a polyp found in my appendix last year. Due to only part of the polyp accessible to my GI doctor's colonoscopy scope, the amount of sampling was limited. The pathology came back as high grade dysplasia. I followed my CRC's...

Re: new here ct scan ordered

As the others have stated, you typically should have had a consult with your GI doctor after the colonoscopy. Your GI doctor would have told you if you were all clear, if there were any polyps found/removed, or if there were any large masses. If there were any large masses found, your doctor would g...

Re: Results of PET scan and questions about the liver!

I was in the same situation but in the other direction. CT scan showed two lesions suspicious for metastasis when I was first diagnosed. A PET was ordered which showed no hypermetabolic activity in the lesions. I consulted with a liver specialist who said he still wants to do a biopsy to confirm the...

Re: O/T...Sort Of...Things Come In 5's - Appendiceal (Appendix) Cancer - Update

Recently for some reason I decided to do an online search for someone I knew from college. After some checking, I found her and saw that she did get married and has 2 young kids. Reading more through what was put online, her husband went in to get checked out for back pain that he thought was from m...

Re: O/T...Sort Of...Things Come In 4's - Appendiceal (Appendix) Cancer - Not Me

Appendiceal cancer is a very sinister disease. I won again with the cancer lottery when I was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer as my second primary last year. I had a clear CT just before seeing my oncologist for a routine 3 month checkup. My blood work was done during this visit and we discussed w...

Re: Port Removal -- ASAP or wait for first scan?

I'll be that person. I had mine out 2 weeks after finishing chemo. On my 11th infusion, I met with my oncologist. I asked him when I can get my port out. He sat there for a minute and said if I wanted to, I can have it out right after finishing chemo. He said just wait at least 2 weeks to make sure ...

Re: Pre-cancerous polyps

Actually, precancerous does not have a stage and catching a precancerous polyp is the best situation you can be in. Stage 0 means there are cancer cells present but it hasn't penetrated beyond the mucousal layer. This is referred to as in situ. I was diagnosed with stage 0 appendicial cancer last ye...

Re: My post chemo CT- looks scary, doc says I am ok

Seems like everything is ok. Did you copy and paste all of the report verbiage here? The impressions section is missing. Every radiology report I've had and seen has an impressions section where the radiologist summarizes what he/she found and makes any additional diagnostic recommendations. For exa...
