Re: Newly Diagnosed

Angie, my story is not meant to scare you, just give you a heads up. When I was initially diagnosed, CT saw something on my liver so they did an MRI and determined it was a hemangioma. I had my bowel resection and did 8 rounds of xeloda. Declared NED. The spot remained the same. 18 months after I fi...

Re: Stories of hope?

I'll stay out of the lymph node part since it's not my thing, I never had any even when I was metastatic. But I can tell you that 5FU infusion and Xeloda are in fact the same drug. They are metabolized slightly differently and give different side effects (from my experience anyway). http://www.ncbi....

I would get your intolerance testing done. I have found a huge difference since doing so. PM me if you want more details :)

Re: Newbie here, I need encouragement, so bummed

Hey Susie

Sorry you're having a rough time with xeloda :( I did too. The HFS was unbelievable. My dose had to come down twice. Though I took it as mop-up chemo after my first dx of stage 2.

Have you considered doing 5FU? I can tell you that 5FU and xeloda were totally different for me.

Re: Please share your right hemicolectomy experience

I had a laprascopic right semi-colectomy and later an open liver wedge resection.... my pros/cons.... laprascopic: -they use gas to fill the cavity and much of it gets trapped. It hurts like a son of a bitch in your shoulders when you stand up. Crippling. (now I was on a fentanyl epidural so shoulde...

Re: Discontinuing Cimetidine

My liver surgeon urged me not to bother. He saw no advantage to it, even after reading the studies that we often quote on this site. I went with his opinion after being unconvinced by the studies.

This is just my 2 cents.

Re: Total or Partial Colectomy?

I see value in both. I was also given the option and I chose a partial. I regret it in some ways (still need scopes and the anxiety that comes with scans/scopes etc) and I knew going into my first few scopes after surgery that I may wind up with many more polyps and may have to do a full colectomy a...
