Re: Right Hemicolectomy expectations

If it can be done laprascaopic like mine, it wasn't too bad actually. By the time I was discharged from hospital on day 6 or so, I had gone to the bathroom to pass a BM. On my 3rd day at home I was doing a deep clean of the house (trying not to lift more than 10lbs!) by week 4 or so I was back at th...

Re: To Xeloda or not to Xeloda

I've done both xeloda, FOLFOX and 5FU... Xeloda: Done usually as a 2 weeks on, 1 week off. 8 cycles. Very expensive drug if you're uninsured (mine was about $2000 per 3 week cycle). Easy to take with minimal nausea. Tiredness wasn't too bad. Diarrhea was mostly manageable. My hand and foot syndrome ...

Re: Stage IV and LTD

Other thing is that his GP might be better at giving all the info. My onc had his head in the sand about a lot of my ongoing issues post-chemo but my GP was well aware of how difficult they were to deal with despite trying everything.

Re: Stage IV and LTD

My experience is that he'll need a few months after to get some energy back. I was able to return to my very demanding work after my first set of chemo (about 3-4 months after I finished) but have not been able to return since the second set of chemo. The side effects are just too great in my case. ...

Re: Newbie - Preparing for Battle

My 10cm mass and 4cm mass landed me with stage 2. I was 30 at the time. So big masses do not automatically mean later stages. Just depends how your body works. I would imagine in either case the mass will be removed. Talk laparoscopic vs open surgery with your surgeon to see. personally I'd do lap a...

Re: Onc wants to remove oxaliplatin

I can tell you that I only made it to 5 before the nerve damage was too great :( The nerves in my lower legs started to go and I started to trip a lot. My hands and feet were really bad and after more than 16 months off oxi, they still bother me a lot. Personally, I would not push for oxi for the la...

Pico-Salax (sodium picosulfate magnesium oxide) -- 3 packets???

I've always done 2 packets of Pico-Salax (sodium picosulfate magnesium oxide) for my scope prep and by end of pack 1 I'm almost clear and by pack 2 I'm really clear. I've been told my prep has always been really good. The surgeon changed the protocol to a PEG-based which I refuse so the receptionist...

Re: new-Liver met and lung things...advice?

I had a wedge resection to remove 1 met from my liver in June 2014. My primary was removed in 2012 when I was stage 2. 1) questions to ask, etc.. - lapro vs open... my hepatic surgeon told me 99% are done open. But the open took way longer to hear than lapro so ask! - incision can be done with a cre...

Re: Help plz- discouraged after 3rd Folfox

I used Emend with better success. But truly FOLFOX does suck. I think every chemo patient hits a point where they wonder what the hell they're doing. Personally I needed to talk to someone else who had done it. Then I had to dig really deep. Encourage him to look at WHY he wants to continue. What do...
