Re: burning with pain

Thanks for the tip on the Biffy bidet. As much as I don't particularly enjoy the ileostomy, I have already been dreading the return to butt burn. It is excrutiating, isn't it? I'm keeping a list of resources to help me with this after takedown. This is a great one!

Re: Incidence of needing an Ileostomy

I have a temporary ileostomy right now and there was no question whether I would have one because my tumor was low, unlike yours. The husband of a friend of mine had rectal cancer and no ileostomy. He developed an infection right away that landed him two different hospitalizations, one for over a mo...

Re: M M M My Xeloda

I didn't realize the talent that is on this forum until last night. First, CRguy's Folfox songs and now this. I have to say that BrownBagger's comment about "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" got more than a chuckle out of me. It reminded me of the time I heard "Those were the days, (my fr...

Re: 2012 - my "5 year" plan ends !

Well, CRGuy, I am glad to see your post today. Since I have made the decision to do the adjuvant chemo, poster EO367 referred me to your Folfox odyssey thread so I could enjoy some humor. I particularly enjoyed "The Ring of Fire" as I could relate to that so well from my radiation days up ...

The Folfox or Xelox Question

Ok, now that I made the decision to do the chemo and again, thanks to everyone for your input, I do have the choice of Folfox or Xelox. I had one week of 5Fu through the port during my chemoradiation until I developed inflammation and a rash around the port. I was switched to Xeloda for the last fou...

Re: Pathologic Complete Response Chemo-No Chemo

Terry,
I am sorry you are going through such a fight. This is just the scenario that started going through my head. I know a recurrence is a possibility with or without chemo. And I was afraid I would blame myself
if I didn't take the chemo. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Pathologic Complete Response Chemo-No Chemo

I just want to thank everyone for their input again. Your responses have been very helpful and informative. I needed to hear about so many people opting for the chemo to help me make up my mind. It is hard to start something else when I am just starting to feel relatively normal again after the surg...

Re: Pathologic Complete Response Chemo-No Chemo

Thanks for your input. I think I am having a hard time making up my mind because I'll fret if I don't do the chemo, worried how I'd feel if I have a recurrence. There are recent research papers from Sloan Kettering and Cleveland Clinic that do compare chemo to no chemo groups. They do not see a sign...

Pathologic Complete Response Chemo-No Chemo

Hi all, I don't post much but sure do learn a lot from those of you who do. A big thanks for that. I had surgery for rectal cancer in November 10 weeks after completion of my chemoradiation. The pathology report showed no evidence of invasive carcinoma and 23/23 clean lymph nodes, the tumor did not ...

Re: CRC later recurrence - is it ever curable?

wrs, I am interested to hear if you had any positive lymph nodes in your surgical pathology report. I had a very clear report and am considering
the no chemo route that was recommended by my surgeon. Looks like it has been a successful path for you.

Re: If you want prayer stop in here!

I have had people from all over praying for me since my diagnosis. The prayer has lifted me and having God by my side
through my treatment thus far has kept me going. We are not alone. I send light and prayers to all of you.

Surgery Next Week, Questions

I will be having surgery next Tuesday for rectal cancer, a colo-anastomosis along with a temporary ileostomy. I will also have a hysterectomy at the same time because one of my uterine fibroids is pressing on the rectum which would make the tumor surgery too tricky. The surgery will be open so I kno...
