Re: I hate generics

Generic formulations are allowed up to a 10% deviation from the brand name to be considered an equivalent dose. However, for some people, that 10% does make a difference in its effectiveness, depending on individual body chemistry. Also, fillers and additives can differ between the brand name and th...

Re: some rounds of chemo Worse than others ?

I have completed 3 rounds of FOLFIRINOX with minimal side effects. Lots of energy on days 1-3, some tiredness on day 4 (probably due to coming off the steroid), lack of energy on day 5, then ok rest of time. So far no neuropathy, just a little tingle when touching something frozen. Appetite and sens...

Re: I give! What is story behind "swinging chickens"?

The tradition of swinging the chicken is from Yom Kuppur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. This year Yom Kippur starts after sunset on Friday October 3d. Prior to the Jewish Day of Atonement, (a time of meditation and prayer asking for forgiveness from the sins of the past and to be inscribed...

Re: neuropathy & efficacy of 5-FU only

5FU is the workhorse of colon cancer treatment. The addition of Oxaliplatin only adds about 5 to 8 percent to the effectiveness of the chemo. In 2003 5FU with Leucovorin was the standard treatment for colon cancer. I had 6 months of Leucovorin infusion with bolus 5FU and had no neuropathy side effec...

Re: At What Stage of Colon Cancer Do Symptoms Typically Appe

I had no symptoms prior to my belated first colonoscopy at age 57. When I awoke and the gastro doc came in, I asked how did i do. I was shocked when he said you're going to need an operation, there is a golf ball size mass in your cecum. I never had any rectal bleeding or change in bowel habits. My ...

Re: Lynch Syndrome 2013, just diagnosed colon cancer

I have been living with Lynch Syndrome for 10 years. Prior to diagnosis, I had already had Endometrial Cancer in 1995 and Colon Cancer in 2003. You get on with your life and follow the suggested preventative surveillance schedule to hopefully nip any future cancers in the bud, or catch them in the e...

Re: Seeking Honest Feedback

Please get that colonoscopy ASAP! If your daughter's colon cancer turns out to be genetic, it could well be what's called a "de novo" mutation, meaning that she would be the first one affected and you would not have a genetic colon cancer. Don't waste worrying until you have something abou...

It's good that the insurance approved the Neulasta. MSK bills Medicare over $7000 per Neulasta shot. I nearly fainted when I saw that on the bill.

Re: How I love you all

Hi Elise I see you got started today - was that something cold you bit down on that caused the pain? I had my second FOLFIRINOX last Monday and so far the only side effect is mild tingling when touching something frozen. I know its supposed to get worse as time goes on. The two days after the fanny ...

Re: Hubby and his precancerous polyps

Diane Since your husbands polyps are labeled precancerous it probably means that some of the cells have changed shape from normal to atypical, which is a step in the progression to cancer. Atypical cells while not cancerous indicate that the polyp is not completely normal but has some cells that hav...
