Re: WBCs and Xeloda versus 5FU?

Thank you all - Jaynee - great explanation! Terry - my doc suggested that I start with 5FU adjuvantly because of the extreme, extreme fatigue I had when on the Xeloda neoadjuvantly. In his experience more patients have extreme fatigue on Xeloda than on 5FU and slightly more mucositis. He has been a ...

Re: WBCs and Xeloda versus 5FU?

Thanks Jaynee. Do you (or anyone else out there) know if 5FU is better at getting the microscopic cells because of its delivery method?

WBCs and Xeloda versus 5FU?

Hi all, I have rectal cancer but I think both colon and rectal cancer patients/survivors may have insight. I had Xeloda and oxaliplatin for 6 cycles neoadjuvant chemo along with radiation. The entire time my WBCs were within acceptable range. I then waited 10 weeks before surgery, had the surgery, t...

Re: what to expect with 5FU chemo treatments??

It is really important to eat - I found that even if I didn't feel like it, eating small amounts helps to stop the nausea. Gingersnaps with real ginger help, ginger tea, see the recent study about ginger capsules too. If I din't eat the nausea would get worse.

Re: Stage IIIC rectal cancer - survival/recurrence

Karma, You can do it. All of the studies I've read (and I'm a reader!) point to chemoradiation, surgery, and chemo as the way to get the very best chances for survival from stage III rectal cancer and there are good survival statistics in the studies. Also remember that someone has to be in the &quo...

Re: Extreme Chemo Fatigue

Thank you all s much for your tips and suggestions. The validation also helps. My onc. says the cumulative effects for me of the neoadjuvant chemo radiation and then the surgery just make it harder with the adjuvant chemo. Oh well - I will get through it just with lots of naps and taking a leave fro...

Re: Okay ladies - graphic post radiation question

I'm a newbie to this board and a little humor goes a long way to combat the stress of this disease. Thank you all for both the serious suggestions which are really helpful but also for the humor. :-)

Re: Extreme Chemo Fatigue

Hi boomer187,

Interesting - what day do you do the acupuncture (in relation to your disconnect day)? In Washington State insurance pays for acupuncture treatments - I'll try it!

Thanks!

Re: Post radiation vaginal stenosis info and questions

Jaynee, Thanks for the PM - I can't yet reply because I'm new to the discussion board and they haven't yet "approved" me to do PMs. When they let me do PMs, I'll reply - definitely want to compare "local" notes! Sorry all for this "off topic" discussion - I'm sure you u...

Extreme Chemo Fatigue

I know there are already some posts about chemo fatigue but just wanted to check to see if anyone has some new ideas about ways to combat the fatigue. I'm currently doing FOLFOX and it was supposed to be easier to take than the chemoradiation (XELOX plus radiation) that I had before surgery but the ...

Re: Post radiation vaginal stenosis info and questions

Hi Jaynee, I actually had the surgery at ____________ in Seattle. Drs. Kratz and Billingham run one of only three clinical fellowships in colon and rectal surgery west of Dallas (the other two are in LA). I really wanted Dr. Kratz and my options were Swedish or Northwest where he is admitted. ______...

Re: Post radiation vaginal stenosis info and questions

Hello all, This is my first post to these forums but I want to thank all of you for all of the great information in the forums - the insight of other "young" people has been invaluable during my battle against this disease. I too have been experiencing vaginal stenosis and awful night swea...
