Re: Surgery Countdown, Anxiety Rising

The epidural was great for my husband. It was no picnic as far as pain, but was well controlled by common drugs after the epidural came out. This sums up my experience as well. The epidural was a great pain killer (no significant pain) and I wasn't as sleepy/woozy/etc. from the other types of pain ...

Re: So tired......

Thinking of you Lara and I hope you are feeling better and that the inlaws have at least helped a little more. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Here are some tips for hubby so you don't have to be a continuous "reminder" - if he uses a smartphone he can set alarms for the times he ...

Re: need advice on FMLA

I totally agree with you. I almost feel like i need to go get a colonoscopy now even though I have no issues (except for occassional lactose intolerance)...but I am so paranoid now. I am 40 and I think people should get one at 40 and not wait until they are 50. I echo the comments about the pestici...

Re: Hypaque Enema aka "Leak Test" prep question

Here is a thread of my experience AND it includes some words of warning/advice because the techs/schedulers don't always understand temporary ileostomies and I received completely incorrect prep instructions. Thankfully my surgeon had warned me ahead of time. http://coloncancersupport.colonclub.com/...

Re: just got Lynch results.....

Hi Lara, There are still mysteries with the "why" - factors that could impact it include the following - but for everyone of these you'll also see people who did all the right things and still got colorectal cancer and at "younger" ages than the typical screening. The typical scr...

Re: Surgeons and how much they cut!!!

As your husband evaluates for his decision, one thing that should be considered is that it is a local recurrence. That is probably impacting the recommendations of the doctors in terms of the surgery.

Re: need advice on FMLA

I hate to tell you this but it is you, not your husband that can apply for FMLA. FMLA is for someone to take time off from work to take care of someone who is ill or in need of care (moms take it off to care for their babies). The above quote is incorrect information. FMLA is for either a personal ...

Re: Insurance Questions - Please Help

I just wanted to add a comment about COBRA health insurance continuation coverage - it only applies to employers large enough to be covered (I don't know the number - something like 15 or 25 employees). If the employer is too small to be governed by COBRA, then each state has it's own similar laws (...

Re: Sorry to be here but may I join you?

Standard protocol for adjuvant chemo in stage 3 is either FOLFOX (one of the various types - FOLFOX4, FOLFOX6, modified FOLFOX6, FOLFOX7) or XELOX (Xeloda and oxaliplatin). When oxaliplatin is contraindicated in a patient (e.g. diabetic) the onc may recommend 5FU/Leucovorin (leucovorin is not a chem...

Re: Sorry to be here but may I join you?

Hello and welcome to the forum. YOu are right that a complete response or near complete response doesn't change the treatment protocol for us stage III patients - still surgery and adjuvant chemo. BUT, if the pathology after your surgery does show complete response or near complete response it is a ...

Re: So tired......

Caregivers really need help and we all understand. Each family is different - although they don't get it, perhaps we all can toss out some ideas. Here are a couple from me: 1. Come straight out and tell them bluntly - this sucks and hubby is focusing on rest and recuperation but that means I am doin...
